SEMINARS on waste segregation at source beginning this week and expected to reduce by 50-70% garbage dumped at the Dampas waste facility would the city’s sustainable response to the worsening waste problem.
With the city’s 15 barangays estimated to dump an average of 100 tons per day, waste segregation at source is expected to cut on waste disposed and thus sustain the facility’s operations.
City Councilor Edi Borja bared this in reports just as the city council contemplates on buying a new bulldozer to immediately act on the complaints of piled garbage at the dumpsite access.
The single bulldozer used to push dumped garbage into the dumpsite pit was broken and a need to replace a spare part.
This has also temporarily suspended the smooth garbage facility operations. (PIA)

COURTESY call to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on July 14 signals the formal start of this year’s Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan in Bohol (TBTK) July 16-22 in the country, says coordinator Liklik Gallares Schroeder in reports.
The TBTK however does not start in Bohol until July 16.
This as Boholanos await the biennial homecoming of Boholanos to discuss on development initiatives and possibly fund some of the priority projects here as identified by the provincial Government.
The TBTK was a concert made into reality when past local leaders saw the need to engage the private sector, especially better-off Boholanos abroad to help the government fund development here.
Following the first successful gatherings, investors have been coming in droves confident that the money they invest here is well managed by a tandem of the government and private sector partners.
The balikbayans formally start the biennial investor gathering with the courtesy call and the formal registration at the city MetroCenter Hotel and Convention Center July 16. (PIA)

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa has called a full alert status to all police regional offices (PROs) in Mindanao following a series of bomb attacks in the region during the past three days.
The Chief PNP then instructed police units to coordinate closely with the local crisis management committees for an organized response to the incidents, including post-blast investigation and identification of suspects responsible for the attacks.
The series of bombings started Sunday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral in Cotabato City that resulted in the killing of five people while nearly 50 others were wounded.
Two bombing attacks also erupted in Jolo, Sulu and in Iligan City killing of at least three innocent civilians and injuring more than 40 others.(PIA)

LEGISLATORS may now have to ask Congressional amendment to the law governing the Philippine Posts Corporation (Philpost) following the public knowledge of its becoming irrelevant and inefficient.
After a Sangguniang Panlalawigan joint committee hearing on complaints of postal users, investigators learned the sad truth: the Philpost is undermanned and has to sacrifice some of its courier service operations resulting in delayed mail deliveries.
Admitting the corporation has significantly been paralyzed after only 9 men are left of its 22 men manning the mails, Philpost head Felix Gablines reported too that the government agency is losing in terms of revenues in its past operations.
Republic Act 7354 governs the operations of the Philpost, and SP legislators may have to lobby for an amendment of the law, which may allow the government to subsidize its postal services operations. (PIA)
