Filing of COCs by mail, telegram or fax, unacceptable – Comelec

Certificate of candidacy (COC) by mail, telegram or facsimile and COCs not filed with the correct offices shall not be accepted by the Commission on Elections.

The COC’s must be filed by the candidate personally or by their duly authorized representatives in writing and under oath on regular days from Nov. 20-Dec. 1, 2009, during office hours, except on the last day which shall be until midnight.

However, when there are two (2) or more candidates for an office with the same name and surname, each candidate, upon being made aware of such fact, shall state his paternal and maternal surname.

Persons filing the COC may include one nickname or stage name by which he is generally or popularly known in the locality, provided that no candidate shall use the nickname, stage name or initials of another and that titles, such as Don, Datu, Doctor or Ginoo or words of similar imports shall not be allowed. PhilHealth increases coverage for maternity cases

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is increasing its benefits for normal spontaneous deliveries done in all accredited hospitals and lying-in clinics in the country. This will be effective starting November 1, 2009. This was the information disclosed by Dr. Rey B. Aquino, PhilHealth President and CEO.

Through Circular No. 39 series of 2009, to increase the coverage from P4,500 to P6,500 per Resolution No. 1282 series of 2009.

Under the new compensation rate, PhilHealth will pay up to P2,500 each to the hospital and the professional while P1,500 shall cover prenatal care services if giving birth in hospital facilities. In non-hospital settings such as lying-in centers and birthing homes, P5,000 goes to the facility while P1,500 goes to prenatal care.

To avail of the benefit, Individually Paying Members (IPMs) should have at least nine (9) months of paid premiums within the immediate twelve (12) months prior to the month of availment while employed members and IPMs enrolled under the KASAPI (Kalusugang Sigurado at Abot-kaya sa PhilHealth Insurance) shall be required at least three (3) months of paid contributions within the immediate six (6) months prior to actual availment. DTI urges public to use safe Christmas lights as holiday season nears

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) urges the public to use safe Christmas lights this holiday season. Further reiterating its warning on substandard Christmas lights, especially those that have not passed quality standards and those with tiny wires.

Consumers are encouraged to buy only products with tamper-proof Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers issued by the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS).

Under DTI-BPS’ product certification scheme, a regulated product or a product covered by mandatory certification is submitted to the BPS Testing Center or any BPS-recognized laboratory for a series of tests, prior to its distribution or sale in the market. (PIA)

My Video: Asia Pacific climate change video contest launched

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently launched My Video, an Asia-Pacific climate change video competition. Its aim is to promote awareness of climate change, stimulate debate, and encourage climate change solutions.

Anyone who is a citizen of any one of ADB’s 67 member countries who is interested in climate change may join. Not eligible to compete are the ADB employees and their family members.

A contestant must make 1 to 5 minute digital film about climate change in Asia and the Pacific. The film may be in digital video format, the use of mobile phone is allowed. Films in any genre are accepted, including but not limited to animation, documentary, drama, experimental, art, testimonial, etc.

The contestant must upload his or her video on YouTube or Youku.com. The contestant must tag his video with “ADB climate change.” The YouTube user must join the ADB Climate Change YouTube group and submit the video entry on the group. Youku users must fill out the simple online registration form.

All entries must be submitted by January 31, 2010. Videos submitted after this deadline will not be considered for prizes. (PIA)

RP is world’s offshoring destination of the year for second time

The Philippines has once again been chosen, by the 4th National Outsourcing Association Awards in London, as the 2009 Offshoring Destination of the Year. Thus further boosting up the morale of the local outsourcing industry, a manifestation that the outsourcing sector in the Philippines is world class and has the capacity to compete with the best.

BPAP submitted the Philippine entry for the NOA category nomination with the help of the Philippine Commercial Attache’s office in London.
