The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has further expand its eCard Plus coverage, as point-of-sale (POS) terminals will be deployed in different offices of the Philippine Postal Corp. nationwide. This can be used to facilitate the eCard’s ATM–related functions.
POS terminals were first deployed in the National Capital region. Soon, POS willbe rolled out in other post offices all over the country.
Using the POS, GSIS members and pensioners can make balance inquiries or cash withdrawals of their loan proceeds or pension payments, respectively, from their eCard savings account.
For withdrawals of up to P4,000, eCard holders will be charged a minimal service fee of P7.50 when using the POS, which will then gradually increase up to P62.50 for withdrawals of P44,100 to P50,000. Balance inquiry is free.
The minimum amount that can be withdrawn through the POS per day is P100 while the maximum amount is P50,000. (GSIS/PIA)

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will strictly conform to provisions of the law that defines the eligibility for survivorship pension starting March 2010.
As stated in the Republic Act 8291, also known as the GSIS Act of 1997, “Only qualified dependent spouses, children, or both can apply for this benefit starting March next year.”
The GSIS referred to Section 20 of RA 8291, which states that only “dependent” spouses and children are qualified to receive survivorship benefits.
“Therefore, a legitimate spouse who is gainfully employed is not entitled to receive the survivorship benefit because he/she is not dependent on his/her spouse for support,” the GSIS said.
In line with this, the GSIS said it will start suspending the monthly benefits of the spouses of deceased pensioners who are found to be gainfully employed or have other sources of income.
The GSIS said new or existing survivorship pensioners working in the government or private sector, gainfully engaged in a business, or currently receiving other pension are not qualified for the survivorship pension. (GSIS/PIA)

From the previous month’s 0.7 percent, the inflation for October rose to 1.6 percent as crop damages brought by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng pushed food prices up and year-on-year-price water price increase. This is according to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) reports. The headline inflation rate in October 2009, however, was significantly lower than the 11.2 percent in October 2008.
The average inflation rate of 3.2 percent for the first 10 months of 2009 is still within the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC) forecast of 2.5 to 4.5 percent. (NEDA/PIA)
