Malacañang is preparing for the state visit of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah. The sultan is “one of the Philippines “strongest allies” in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Sultan of Brunei arrives today, January 29, for a two-day state visit aimed at bolstering economic and trade relations between the two countries. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to work closely with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The President expects that with closer cooperation between the two agencies, will lead to a fiercer war against the drug menace. Arroyo also ordered to strengthen the intelligence gathering network to ensure that drug cases filed by the government against drug lords are backed by airtight evidence. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed Avelino Razon, the newly-appointed Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, to pave the way for the resumption of the negotiations.
At the 18th Anniversary of the PNP, the President said that the peace talks between the government and the MILF should resume to end the decades-old Mindanao conflict.
The President expressed hope that all sectors would join the government and give their 100% support to renewed efforts to forge a permanent peace in Mindanao. (PIA/Bohol)

As an answer to the increasing famine reported in the surveys, billions will be freed by the government to fund the food programs.
According to the National Nutrition Council (NNC), on program to solve the hunger is the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP) that will be implemented to places with high rates of famine.
In the 2008 Social Weather Station (SWS) survey, there are 4.3 M households or 23.7 % households in total experience hunger. There are 81 provinces in the country , 49 of these are still not secured in terms of food. (rachiu/PIA)

Four decrees have been passed by Presidente Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG), Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Arroyo, known as the Anti-drug Czar, decreed to renew the list of Known drug lords, add monitoring in the movement of known drug pushers, destroy known drug havens, and to stop the known drug lords.
Just recently, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that the President reminds the aforementioned agencies to do their job well in regards to the new decrees against illegal drugs.
News have reached Malacanang about Local Government Executives (LGEs), police, and judicial members that serve as informants to drug pushers and drug lords when search warrants are approved by the law.
In addition, the President has decreed to the Solicitor General in their never ending pursue drug-related cases. (rachiu/PIA)
