Malacanang is ready for Swiss president’s visit

Malacanang is now ready for the visit of Swiss President Pascal Couchepin on August 11 and 12. It would be his first state visit to the country. He will be accompanied by his wife, Madame Brigitte Couchepin.

The purpose of his visit would be to renew the Swiss – Philippine relations, and also to meet up with the policy and economic policy makers of this country. As head of the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs, the Swiss President will also visit the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). Both of which are supported by Switzerland.

ARMM elections this Monday, August 11

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is now ready for the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections this Monday, August 11 regardless how chaotic the region is.

Comelec Chairman Josemelo said that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and PNP are now on full security in ARMM. Last Monday, they had a last minute meeting with the Comelec officials and the PNP on what to guard and to keep an eye on Maguindanao since it is the base for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). If ever ther will be chaos on the election day, the Comelec can declare “Failure of Election.”

MOA signing between government and MILF is cancelled

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in regards to Bansa- Moro Juridical Entity (BJE), is cancelled. The BJE is concerned with the widening of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) area.

The Supreme Court said the MOA signing is cancelled, and released a Temporary Restraining Order to maintain status quo. The TRO was a result from a petition made by Congresman Erico Fabian of Zamboanga City. Fabian was against it since the government made negotiations with the MILF without making consultations on such matters with the local government of Zamboanga.

P5 million released to help Dauis in its water crisis

An additional Php 5 million was given to the municipality of Dauis for help in their water crisis. It was through the help of Congressman Edgar Chatto.

The water reservoir will be built in Brgy. Mayacabac and the repair of the water distribution lines in Mariveles that goes to Totolan and Songculan. Two machines are now installed in Mariveles and Tinago to assist Bohol Waters in the distribution of water supply.

Rate for electricity to increase – NAPOCOR

The rate for electricity this month will rise after National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) asked a price increase from Energy Regulatory Board (ERB). Two petitions raised by NAPOCOR to ERB asked for such increase to justify for their costs in Generation Rate, Adjustment Mechanism, and Incremental Currency Exchange Rate Adjustments.

Their costs increased because of the rise of the oil price worldwide and the weakening of the Peso-Dollar rate. If approved, the rate will be Php 18.21 kwh in Luzon and Php 45.33 kwh in Visayas.
