PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has announced the increase in Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) target beneficiaries from 700,000 to one million poor families per month.
Also known as the Conditional Cash Transfer Program, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program addresses the structural inequities in society and promotes the human capital development of the poor, thus working to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
The 4Ps original target was 3,000 poor families at the program start but was later raised to 700,000 until the million families now.
Pleased with the program progress, PGMA said the government could do more with the country’s too many poor families wishing to get to the 20 % of the country’s 4.6 million poor families.
Over this, the government has earmarked an additional P5-Billion for the expanded 4Ps coverage. (PIA)
