Conbusac Convention held recently in Seattle, WA, U.S.A re-elected Carlos Cagaan as President of Conbusac for another term. Through a letter sent by the President organizing TBTK, Betty Veloso Garcia, it stated that during the convention, wherein, the governor of the province was the special guest of honor, TBTK was declared to be now an independent entity from Conbusac, and that participation in every TBTK will be invitational for other participating countries to be involved. It was known in the meeting that most of the past CONBUSAC leaders will be home for TBTK. Garcia said she will be arriving from the U.S in Manila in time for the awaited Malacanang Palace visit of the participating Boholanos from different countries to TBTK on the 14th of July 2009.
Regarding the Bohol Day Celebration, participating groups are given special seats to join the program with Pres. Gloria M. Arroyo as guest of Honor. TBTK Communication Center starting July 15th will be at the Metro Center Hotel along CPG Avenue in Tagbilaran City, for the updates. However , Carlita ‘Liklik’ Gallares Schroeder the Over-all Coordinator reiterated that those who did not pre-register will have to pay the additional event registration fees.

Good news to Prepaid mobile phone holders.

Prepaid credits of mobile phones – popularly known as “load” – will now have longer expiration dates after the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued new rules on Friday. Under Memorandum Circular No. 03-07-2009, loads with higher values will have longer expiration or validity periods. Credits worth P10 or lower will be valid for three days from the previous one-day expiration. Loads more than P10 up to P50 can be used for 15 days while credits worth more than P50 up to P100 will remain valid for 30 days. Loads more than P100 to P150 will expire at the end of 45 days while credits of more than P150 to P250 will last for 60 days. More than P250 to P300 will remain valid for 75 days while credits worth more than P300 will last for 120 days.These new rules will take effect 15 days after publication in newspapers. Currently, a P10 load is only valid for a day while a P30 load can be used within three days. A P200 load will last for 30 days and P300 worth of credits can last for 60 days. The credits’ validity will start upon confirmation receipt of prepaid load purchased, the NTC said. Newly-purchased credits will be added to unused loads, thereby extending the validity of the total loads. If a subscriber with an unused load of P20 buys P10 worth of new credits, the new validity period is 15 days. Accessing balance inquiry services through text messaging should be free of charge, the NTC said.

Panglao Bohol International Airport is said to be on its first move of action. The notice of bidding for the long awaited Panglao Bohol International Airport is slated to be published on July 17, with the opening of bids and possible awarding to the winning bidder scheduled 43 days later as set by law. The governor of the province, Erico Aumentado had instructed Provincial Legal Officer Handel Lagunay to attend a meeting with the Officers of the Manila International Airport Authority in Manila to ensure that the timelines set earlier will be followed. Meanwhile, the governor takes pride in having a strong hold on the Bohol leaders to reassure President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of a unified government for the President not hesitate to support local projects for which the former leverages the internal revenue allotment (IRA) for counterpart funds. The governor, furthermore, has invited President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to inaugurate another 138 brand new classrooms in 68 newly constructed buildings in symbolic rites at the Bohol Cultural Center when the province celebrates its 155th foundation day on July 22, 2009, which coincides with the holding of the Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan.

Barangay Officials Death Benefit Funds for dependents and survivors.

For services rendered Checks worth P12,000 each to 19 dependents and survivors of barangay officials. Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno assisted by Bohol provincial director Rustica Mascarinas handed the checks to each dependents and survivors of barangay officials who died in performing their duties. Sec. Puno during the turn-over of the government’s financial assistance said that the “small contribution [is] in recognition for the public service rendered by [their] loved ones”. The government has set aside a fund for the payment of death benefits of barangay officials who died during the term of office, one aptly called Barangay Officials Death Benefits Fund. The benefit funds thru the Department of Budget and Management are allocated for Barangay Officials such as the Punong Barangay, Seven Barangay Kagawads, SK President as Ex-officio Barangay Kagawad, Secretary and Treasurer who died in their term of office. The funds are released to and administered by the DILG in accordance with its rules and regulations.
Secretary Puno came to Bohol to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the government of the Philippines through Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado and Canadian International Development Agency for project assistance in Local Government Support Project Local Economic Development.

Boholanas reported to be targets of human trafficking syndicates operating in Manila.

Nine women aged 18 and below, all from Getafe town and about to board a Cebu Pacific flight for Manila were intercepted with their recruiter an agent of Bernardino Employment Agency, according to Tagbilaran Aviation Security Station Officer. The nine female passengers were already on their way to the pre-departure area at the City Airport when spotted by Police S/Insp. Donatila Sotto and could not present any identification cards and birth certificates, when asked by the aviation police. More so, their recruiter could not present any document when asked by Sotto. Sotto said, based on information gathered after the incident, there were other similar occasions that a group of young female passengers were accompanied by a recruiter bound for Manila. Sotto requested that Women’s Desk should be set up at the city airport with additional personnel to monitor human trafficking and other related crimes. Women in the towns are asked to be extra careful in accepting offers for job opportunities to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking. Police Senior Inspector Sotto suspects young female Boholanas are targets of human trafficking syndicates operating in Manila.
