The Filipino community and friends of the Philippines in Norway and Denmark have donated a total of P565,840 to the victims of super Typhoon Frank.
Ambassador Victoria S. Bataclan, who immediately rallied Filipino community leaders in Norway and Denmark to assist the country after news of the devastating typhoon broke out, received a ceremonial check from the Filipino community in Norway, during their 9th Filipino Community Leaders Meeting held at the Philippine Embassy in Oslo on June 30, 2008.
Aside from donating directly to the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), the Filipino community also sponsored the construction of one classroom in the Sara National High School in Iloilo under the Classroom Galing sa Mamamayang Pilipino Abroad (CGMA) program of the Philippine government.
Several leaders and representatives of Filipino organizations also placed their donations/pledges of assistance during the meeting. (PIA/Bohol)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the Department of Science of Technology (DOST) to conduct further research to maximize the productivity of the lowly and oftentimes overlooked coconut as a means to improve the lives of millions of Filipinos.
According to the President; “by improving productivity in coconut areas, more money can be put in poor people’s pockets so they can afford the higher world price of food.”
For one thing, the largescale coconut production would make virgin coconut “as familiar in kitchen cabinets as olive oil,” she added.
The DOST, through its Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), in cooperation with the Ateneo de Manila University, is conducting various researches on the coconut involving production, development and uses of coconut by-products and plant infestation.
“The DOST is speeding up the development of physio-chemical and biological studies for virgin coconut oil to ensure its high quality in international and local markets,” the President added further. (PIA/Bohol)

Kining tulo ka sub-task forces maoy moabag sa naha-unang task forces sa search and rescue ug recovery (SAR) ug relief and rehabilitation, kins una na nga na-umol.
Matud ni Bautista, alang sa Hazmat, nakigsabot na ang nasud sa World Health Organization ug sa United nations environment unit kalabut sa tukmang pag-handle sa water samples.
Alang sa DVI, siya mibutyag nga ang Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) magpadala ug 3,000 ka DNA testing kits samtang ipadala sa Saravejo, Bosnia Herzegovina, ang mga bukog sa mga biktima aron tukma kining mailhan pinaagi sa siyensa. Ang kagamhanan sa Canada usab mipasalig na sa pagtabang sa pag-ila sa mga biktima pinaagi sa dental files sa mga na-ugkat nga biktimang wa pa hi-ilhi.
