THE Bohol ICT council will host events that are focused on developing the tech, maker, design, and entrepreneurship community of Bohol. This was agreed by the council in their monthly meeting on February 4, 2016 at the Prawn Farm at the Island City Mall, Tagbilaran City.
In the past few years, the council has been actively engaged in tech activities such as the first Startup Weekend Bohol held in May 23, 2014, the MakerFest led by DTI-Bohol and the various Fablab events and workshops in 2015. In January 2016, DTI – Bohol and FabLab Bohol announced the winners of the BHLi2i Competition.
These events are promoting creation and solution-building, and individuals have begun to rise among the ranks of Boholano talents.
With their own grit, passion, and desire to succeed and give back, Bohol now has a selection of community-builders and problem-solvers that are growing to become the province’s model for entrepreneurial development. Some notable names to mention are Dalareich Polot of Ginto Luxury Chocolates, Roy Bayonas of Vapoware, and the duo, Ben Skelton and Jay Paul Aying of Cocobot.
Last week, Ideaspace Foundation, with the support of the local tech community, held a roadshow inviting teams to join its 4th Ideaspace Startup Competition where the national competition winners will get a Php1M worth of funding and support from the foundation.
In the meantime, Startup Weekend Bohol 2, an international event-workshop focused on business development through technology, is being organized by a volunteer team composed of technology advocates in the province.
To prepare our community for the upcoming Ideaspace Startup Competition and Startup Weekend Bohol 2, the ICT council will be holding a series of events such as pitching competitions, mobile app development, design workshops, and business model development that are open to all interested participants from students to professionals.
The council hopes that with such support, the community will step up and create more opportunities for Boholanos and the province itself. This is in line with the provincial government’s mandate to seek opportunities for job creation through ICT.
The deadline for application to the Ideaspace Startup Competition is on March 18, 2016. Startup Weekend Bohol 2 is scheduled to on April 15-17, 2016.
