TAGBILARAN CITY, December 15 (PIA)–The BangkoSentralngPilipinas (BSP) reminded the information officers of the local government units and national government agencies about the December 31, 2016 deadline to swap holdings of New Design Series (NDS) paper bills.
During the general assembly meeting of the Association of United Development Information Officers in Bohol (AUDIO-Bohol) recently hosted by BSP, Bank Officer Hazel Cultura said the old NDS banknotes launched in 1985 will fully lose monetary value starting Jan. 1, 2017.
Cultura added that under Section 57 of Republic Act (RA) No. 7653 or the New Central Bank Act, the BSP may replace notes of any series that are more than five years old and coins that are more than 10 years old.
The BSP defines demonetization as “the process of removing the monetary value of a legal tender currency by the issuing authority.”
However, Cultura clarified that only paper bills are included in the latest demonetization.
She said holders of NDS can still exchange NDS paper bills at face value in banks, the Cash Department of the BSP and the various BSP offices nationwide.
For NDS notes that are subject of court cases, it can be exchanged within six months after the corresponding legal cases have been terminated.
Clerks of Courts and law enforcement agencies were given an extension to swap their NDS from end of December 2016 to January 31, 2017.
Meanwhile, for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), they are also allowed to swap their NDS holdings outside of the period given to the public.
OFWs are required to register their NDS holdings with the central bank through online application at https://orbs.bsp.gov.ph that started last October 1. The NDS holdings can be swapped within a year after the registration.
OFWs are allowed to swap up to P50,000 worth of NDS holdings in line with the 11th foreign exchange liberalization of the central bank.
“For those who are situated in war torn countries, the deadline for exchange is extended to 31 December 2017. There is no need for them to register,” Cultura said. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)

(PIA-Bohol/ecb)

TAGBILARAN CITY, December 13 (PIA)–The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is open to the idea of locating in Panglao its Bohol branch if no property areas in Tagbilaran City meet its strict requirements.
This was revealed by Bank Officer Hazel Cultura to the members of the Association of United Development Information Officers in Bohol (AUDIO-Bohol) during their General Assembly Meeting hosted by BSP last December 8, 2016 at JJ’s Seafood Village, this city.
Cultura said Central Bank is eager to construct the structure next year or as soon as the most appropriate site, which can also be within the city, is identified, cleared and approved.
Eitherin the tourist town of Panglao, where the new Bohol airport is currently constructed, or its neighbor town of Dauis offers an ideal site, Cultura said.
The lot area for the facility should be at least 5,000 square meters along a major road network or, in areas where there are no other suitable sites, the frontage of the lot should not be less than 50 meters.
There was then a potential site but the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) advised BSP to find another because of geological hazard following Bohol’s 7.2 magnitude earthquake on 2013.
While a most ideal site is yet to be fixed, Cultura said interested landowners may contact the Bohol Provincial Government to have a direct access to BSP authorities who are in charge of the project.
The Central Bank in Bohol will further result in a better quality of banknotes and coins in circulation and easier access for the Boholanos to exchange their unfit bills and coins and to surrender counterfeitnotes. (ecb/PIA7-Bohol)

TAGBILARAN CITY, December 13 (PIA)–The Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or popularly known as Pag-IBIG Fund got a net satisfaction of +75 or Excellent in the Visayas for its services, based on a national survey conducted by Social Weather Stations from September 24 to 27, 2016.
This is a 34-point increase from +41 in a similar survey done in December 2015.
“One of the biggest reasons for the increased net satisfaction in the area is the opening of more branches in Regions 6 to 8, or Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas, respectively. From five branches in 2010, we now have 19 branches and three service offices all over the Visayas,” said Ms. Victoria dela Pena, Vice President for Member Services Operations in the Visayas and Mindanao.
She also attributed members’ awareness to the increased visibility of various Pag-IBIG teams who are aggressive in marketing the Fund’s Loyalty Card program.
Among the respondents, 84% answered that they are aware of Pag-IBIG Fund and its programs. This is a 5-point increase from the previous 79% awareness score.
“Constant exposure of our membership and housing programs on TV and social media also contributed to the high net satisfaction,” Ms. Dela Pena added.
Availment of services also increased, up by 8% to 24% in September 2016 from 16% in December 2015.
The biggest jump in services was noted for membership and employer registration, showing a 29% increase from 36% in December 2015 to 65% in September 2016. This was followed by verification of membership or loan records at 24%, up by 9% from 13% in December 2015.
Starting last year, Pag-IBIG initiated to engage a third party survey to track how members are impacted by its programs. Pag-IBIG continues to implement reforms and enhance its programs, and makes sure that these improvements are felt by its 16.9 million members worldwide.
