DOLE credits employment surge to gov’t job generation program

Department of Labor and Employment (D-O-L-E) Secretary Marianito Roque said the administration’s job generation program has really provided sound employment to Filipinos, the recent statistics show.

In fact, the DOLE chief was elated at the National Statistics Office (N-S-O) labor force survey shows the improved quality of employment here.

Highlighting that wage and salary employment increased by 7.3 percent over last year’s, he cited that the number of persons in full time employment increased by 500,000 while self-employed workers and unpaid family workers fell by 335,000.

He attributed the modest hike in employment to the government’s economic stimulus program, adding that the DOLE itself has embarked on several emergency employment projects nationwide. (pia)
