DTI releases list of basic necessities under automatic price control

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) releases list of basic necessities under automatic price control. An advisory to all retailers declaring a price freeze on basic necessities as provided for under the Price Act or Republic Act 7581. This is in consonance to Proclamation No. 1898 signed recently by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declaring the entire country on October 2 under a state of calamity.

With the signing of Proclamation No. 1898, prices of basic goods are effectively controlled by the Department of Trade and Industry, giving the agency the power to freeze prices of basic commodities at their prevailing prices.

Retailers are warned by the DTI to observe the PRICE FREEZE in all brands of listed commodities to avoid sanctions: MAXIMUM OF 10 YEARS IMPRISONMENT AND FINE OF P 1M.

For complaints and inquiries, consumers may call or proceed to the nearest DTI Office in their area: Bohol Tel. # (038) 501-8260. Complaints may also be addressed to the DTI Secretary Peter Favila at 09178063473 or DTI 24-hour hotline (02) 751-3330. (DTI-7)
