Due to P1.9M debt Hospital suspends Blue Card program

Due to the P 1.9 M unpaid medical expenses under Tagbilaran’s Blue Card free hospitalization program, the Gov. Celestino Gallares Regional Hospital is suspending admittances charged against the city government.

The government hospital confirmed in a check that the outstanding obligations of the city remain unpaid prompting its management to stop allowing patients to charge hospital billings against the Blue Card.

Since the hospital fees ballooned to over P2.146 million in June 2008, the city government only paid once despite several demands for payment.

Some city lawmakers were shocked to learn of the unpaid debt since the Sangguniang
Panlungsod (SP) approved a P4 million allocation for the Blue Card last year.

Until the city government pays its debt, the hospital will refuse admittances under
the hospitalization program of the city.

Efforts to get the side of City Health Officer Dr. Antonio Porticos regarding the issue proved futile.
