DTI Bohol To Conduct BAGWIS Re-orientation Seminar
The Department of Trade and Industry, Bohol Provincial Office (DTI-BPO) is set to conduct a one-day Re-orientation Seminar to all certified BAGWIS establishments in the province. This will be on May 30, 2017 from 9 o’clock in the morning to 4 o’clock in the afternoon, at JJ’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City. The seminar is also open to prospective businesses through their owners or representatives, who are interested to be certified as a BAGWIS establishment. During this activity, the following topics will be discussed by an invited speaker (1) Implementing Guidelines on the Grant of BAGWIS Award, and (2) the Shortchanging Act. Prior to this event on the 30th, DTI-Bohol called a meeting with business owners and their representatives last May 5, 2017, where they were apprised about the BAGWIS program, when it started and what it takes to be a certified establishment. The Department of Trade and Industry – Bohol Provincial Office launched on May 17 the Kapatid Mentor Me Program (KMMP), in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) and the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The KMMP is a 12-module mentoring session for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), to help scale-up their business through weekly coaching and mentoring by business owners and practitioners on the different areas of entrepreneurship. The goal of the program is to produce confident entrepreneurs with the right mindset and business knowhow that will enable them to sustain and scale-up their business. More than 300 participants coming from the business sector, government and other private institutions attended the whole day activity, which included a signing of the Memorandum of Agreement among DTI, PCE and BCCI to make official their partnership under the program. Twenty five (25) mentees who earlier signed their commitment contract to the 9-week mentoring sessions began their modules 1 and 2 early in the afternoon together with the rest of the participants. Speakers and KMMP mentor Mr. Rey Calooy of RNC Marketing Philippines delivered Module 1: Entrepreneurial Mind-Setting and Values Formation while local mentors Engr. Arnold Labunog of Jojie’s Bakeshop/Jojie’s Painitang Bol-anon and Dr. Ed Escalona of Our Delibread also shared their stories during the Inspirational Forum. 23 October 2017 – The Internet has introduced improvements in technology, communication and online entertainment – a tool which transformed the way people communicate and information is disseminated – but it is also incredibly useful for education and training purposes as well. Its widespread use has unlocked a substantial amount of information and knowledge to a broader range of people. The Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC)’s 4th Kapihan seminar held on October 23, 2017 focused on the recent advances and integration of Learning Management Systems, a software application to document, track, report, and deliver fully online educational courses or training programs. A systems integration and application development company, ExcentOne CEO Dino Cavestany, centered discussion on the pros and cons of traditional education and eLearning. PTTC Trade Industry and Development Analyst Joseph Argente was also on hand to discuss introduction to computer programming. Without the limitations of a classroom, eLearning can accommodate any size where training modules are more personalized and targeted, tailored fit to the needs of its participants and can be accessed instantly from anywhere. Not all courses, however, can be offered online. Technical courses such as Accounting for new startup owners and non-accountants are examples of e-learning courses. Other areas of e-learning are content immediacy, universality, and continuity. The cost of installing an LMS is primarily based on the nature of the content. The Bohol Information and Communications Technology Council held its monthly meeting on July 3, 2015 at the Buzzz Cafe at Galleria Luisa in Tagbilaran City Bohol. The meeting was presided by the council’s chairperson Ms. Lai Biliran. Ms. Biliran highlighted the various activities lined up that the council should lead or at least participate. In particular, she said that the Sandugo-Maker Fest activity which is part of the Sandugo celebration this year, should be promoted and attended by the tech community as the speakers are authorities in entrepreneurship and technology. Details about the Tech4Ed and TVWS (TV whitespace) were also discussed with the Google Educators Group representative and the DOST-ICTO representative as these projects by the Department of Science and Technology should be strongly supported by the council in order to help make impact in the countryside by bringing digital content for education even in informal setting. Another initiative that the council will contribute is on ‘Rural Impact Sourcing’ which is aimed at generating online jobs at the rural areas to help generate jobs without requiring workers to leave their homes.
