Bangon Marawi Store Launched in Makati

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the Bangon Marawi Product Store today (29 September) at the Ground Floor of the DTI Bldg. along Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. in Makati to introduce Maranao products to the public as well as provide livelihood assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Marawi City. This follows Administrative Order No. 03 of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte mandating the creation of an inter-agency task force that would implement the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of Marawi City and other affected localities. “While our government is working tirelessly to give them respite in the wake of the tragedy afflicting their city, DTI has come up with its own way to help our Mindanao countrymen” Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez (3rd from L) said. “Given that the Maranaos are inherently traders, we thought it appropriate to find a way to help them showcase their products and bring them to the mainstream market,” Lopez added. Products on sale include brasswares, wooden furniture, wearables, Maranao woven products, jewelry, fashion accessories, and Maranao native delicacies.  The sales and proceeds of the Bangon Marawi products will go to help the Maranaos and others displaced by the conflict in Marawi. This project is done in partnership with the Bangsa Moro Federal Business Council, the Tugaya Local Government, the Muntinlupa Local Government, and Magsaysay Shipping and Logistics. Also at the launch were Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana (leftmost)  with wife Edith Lorenzana (2nd from L), Undersecretary Rowel Barba (rightmost), Undersecretary Nora Terrado (3rd from R) with other DTI and other officials. Two-weeks old cough, get to nearest RHcenter

FOR two weeks old cough, health authorities insist that the best action is to go to the nearest rural health center or health facility. During the motorcade, which acted as the launching activity for the Lung Month in August August 11, members of the Provincial Council Against Tuberculosis (PROCAT) displayed banners and streamers declaring such to guide people to the proper administration of potential TB disease. TB, according to experts can now be treated, so all that is necessary is for the patient to be given the right treatment at the proper time. PROCAT is an alliance of non-government, government and health volunteers out to mobilize communities against tuberculosis. The council has also advocated with World Vision for the adoption of simple practices to keep TB off prisons. With the business sector, PROCAT is also into making sure that TB is nowhere in the workplace and Bohol businesses are just as enthusiastic in supporting the treatment program now anchored at the Department of Health facilities....

“Diezon” ambush suspects charged

THREE months into the investigation of the failed ambush committed against Clarin Vice Mayoralty candidate last May 10, police operatives have filed appropriate charges against five accused criminals. Implicated in the ambush against former Clarin Mayor Hermogenes Diezon and his driver were Felimon Allison, Gildo Infiesto all of Poblacion Clarin, Dario Aparicio of Behind the Clouds Batuan, Junior Reducto of Alegria Carmen and Christopher Ugong of Bayug, Clarin. Police said as they earlier theorized that the crime was election related, they got it correct. It may be recalled that Diezon was riding a government vehicle about 3:45 AM last May 10 on his way to Barangay Bungtod. While the driver was navigating at Sito Labangon, Poblacion Sur, some three gunmen started shooting at the vehicle, which is a maroon Mazda with plate number SGH 134. Diezon, his driver and another unnamed person escaped unhurt, but the vehicle sustained 7 gunshot holes, according to the police blotter. The case against the five accused was filed at the provincial fiscals office last August 10, 2010, said PIDMB Chief PWayne Pillado Magbanua....

Only 19 town peace Councils convened

ONLY 19 towns in Bohol could have complied with the Governor’s directive to hold their respective municipal peace and order councils within the month of July, reports interior and local government provincial director Rustica Mascarinas. At the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Meeting held in the island town of President Carlos Garcia (Pitogo), Mascarinas added that of the 47 towns and one city, some nine towns did not even care to meet, while some 20 towns did say they met, but no reports were submitted to the DILG. It may be recalled that Gov. Edgar Chatto told the PPOC during its previous meeting that town mayors would be directed to reconvene their respective MPOCs as soon as possible. The governor also instructed the DILG to monitor compliance of his directive, but Mascarinas said Bohol has about 22 newly minted mayors, which may cause problems as they may be unfamiliar with the conduct of MPOCs....

Keep the “habit” against dengue

KEEPING the four ‘o clock habit is still the most effective contribution a community can do against the onslaught of deadly dengue, says Philippine National Red Cross (BNRC) Board member Romeo Teruel. Newspaper reports quoting the Department of Health last week bared that dengue has been noted in almost all the towns here in Bohol and has claimed at least 7 lives from January to July. The same reports also said that the Provincial health Office has noted about 787 cases of possible dengue including those treated or suspected of the disease brought about by the Asian tiger mosquito, aedes aegypti. Inspect vicinities of our homes every 4:00, empty all those containers which may be venues for the mosquitoes to breed, lid every water container and destroy all potential homes of mosquitoes, Teruel advised. Teruel, whose concern also includes supporting PNRC generate blood to help patients, pointed out that dengue has become a recurring problem so that PNRC could not just be passive. He stressed that PNRC is going out of the way to be ready in any eventuality. Dengue then used to be only noted during some months, but seemingly, the mosquitoes have also adapted to the conditions and made them perennial threats, a medical practitioner shared. PNRC has been the most immediate source of blood support for transfusions but recent data showed that the blood bank’s storage capacity may not be enough to respond to the current need, revealed Ms. Nenita Briones, Red Cross Administrator. The most important is that while we are urging people to donate blood, while we are preparing, the community’s involvement is most...

BOHOL: July ASEAN Cultural capital

The magically lit Abatan river and the equally spectacular performance by the Teatro Abatan conspired to assert Bohol’s hold as Asia’s Cultural Capital in July. At a place where time flows with the ebb of tides, Abatan was all the while, different last July 22. There, time paused from its flow and momentarily sat along the banks of the river; a spectator of the rare meeting of the classical East and the ethnic and indigenous Bohol cultures which later exploded in a myriad of colors in the light of the celebration. July 22 this is year is 156th Bohol Day, an event marked by the official declaration of the island province as independent from Cebu. That day also brings the Asian spotlight to the province as Asia’s Cultural Capital for the month. Brandishing nothing but a track record as one of the country’s most successful engagements of culture as tool for community mobilization against poverty, Bohol’s cultural renaissance program has earned international admiration. No less than NCCA Executive Director Cecille Guidote-Alvarez who used to described culture as “an engine for economic growth, a building block of social creation, an asset of national pride and a force for education and social transformation, as well as an effective tool for cultural diplomacy” heaped praises for Bohol that day. The declaration of Asian Cultural Capital in July for Bohol allows the people to build audiences and unleash the creative power of people by art and persuasion and not by force. The over-all goal is to be one with the Asean region in overcoming the war against poverty and environmental degradation to assure...
