OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Effective Development Communications Unit   Bohol declares UN-WTO International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development During 17th Bohol Ubi Festival   Bohol is first in the country to declare 2017 as United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN-WTO) International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.   Gov. Edgar Chatto pledged commitment and symbolically sliced an ube open to officially launch in Bohol 2017 as the UN-WTO International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development during the Opening Program of the 17th Ube Festival on Friday, January 20.   The declaration highlights as key Economic, Environment, and Socio cultural aspects of tourism.   Gov. Chatto said agriculture and tourism remain major development pillars for Bohol and the Ube Festival features both agriculture and tourism that is not only distinctive of Bohol but also contributing to economic growth of the province.   Guest speaker Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 Director Catalino Chan III, who came on behalf of DOT Sec. Chatto launches TaRSIER117 mobile app

The Telephone and Radio Systems Integrated Emergency Response or TaRSIER117 expands its services with the launch of the TaRSIER117 mobile application. Gov. Edgar Chatto and Provincial Administrator Alfonso R. Damalerio II led the launching of the TaRSIER117 quick response application during a meeting of the Management Executive Board.   The app can be downloaded on the App Store for iOS smart phones or via Playstore for Android users.   The TaRSIER117 quick response application is a quick dialler app and it has a directory for numbers to call during emergency situations. When a call is made using the application, TaRSIER117 can locate the caller.   It will be modified later on to include quick guides on how to respond to emergency situations.    The mobile app launching was held after the blessing of new TaRSIER117 emergency response vehicles and equipment.   New ambulances and utility trucks for effective disaster response   Blessed were new vehicles including four ambulances, three utility vehicles (relief truck, boom truck, and evacuation truck), two rescue boats, as well as 6 sets of fire fighting protective equipment.   The day after, Gov Chatto turned over the two ambulances for district hospitals of Loon and Inabanga to Dr. Celestina Ma. dela Serna and Dr. Victor Allan Torrefranca, respective hospital chiefs in the presence of Provincial Administrator Ae Damalerio and Health Cluster Coordinator Dr. Cesar Tomas Lopez.   He also turned over a disaster relief truck to the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Carmelita Tecson.   The mobile app launch and the provision of new TaRSIER117 vehicles and equipment are part... read more

DTI-PTTC SME Week Free Seminars: 39 MSMEs Sign Up for E-Commerce

    The Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), the training arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), recently conducted a total of 23 free seminars geared towards enhancing MSME’s managerial and technological capabilities during SME Week held on July 18-19, 2017 at the PTTC grounds.   With the theme “Moving Towards Skilled, Market-Driven and Engaged MSMEs”, the two-day event was attended by about 367 MSMEs. After participating in the UREKA Forum, 24 signed up for Shopinas, an online store of Philippine products, and an additional 15 after attending the seminar on “Doing Business in E-marketplaces.”   This positive response from the MSMEs is an indication that by providing them free and easy access to information, entrepreneurs are ready and willing to digitize their business. As DTI Assistant Secretary Rosvi C. Gaetos emphasized in her opening remarks, “PTTC’s role and commitment in providing various training programs is to help MSMEs catapult into the global markets with the overarching goal of transforming them into global business entrepreneurs”.   Asst. “Wadje tale” in Cortes dance drama up soon

IF plans do not miscarry, Cortesanons would have a brief preview of the dance drama of epic tale Wadje, fully performed by amateur Cortesanon artists from the town’s riverside barangays. Set for a minor launch this October 17 and a repeat performance for October 21, Cortes Foundation Day, the dance drama entitled Wadje sa Abatan sa mga Panghitabo would showcase debuting local artists retelling the handed oral traditions about the famed lady warrior Wadje. Early this year, the National Commission for Culture and Arts tasked Drama Committee Chair and Boholano multi-awarded artist tasked Lutgardo Labad to study the possibility of a cultural shows complementing Abatan Community Tours. With a trigger fund from the government through House Committee on Tourism Chair Edgar Chatto and from PROCESS Bohol’s interest in complementing the community tours, executive director Emilia Roslinda initiated the first coordination meetings toward the goal. Lucky for Cortes, a Cortesanon theater artist and New York based stage director Lorely Garrote-Trinidad, local artists Blair Panong, Sebastian Ocon, Phillip Panong, Rey Anthony Chiu, grounding research for a workable script first started April this year. Months later, after interviews and research, the frail but epic character of Wadje was a common thread for local lores about the place. Prodding open the oral memories handed from generations, researchers unearthed the buried tale of Wadje and husband Mag-ile, warriors of Sacsac. The tale was all too colourful not to be noticed. October 6 meeting at the Malacanang Palace holds the realization of the proposed multi-billion International Airport Project

The heads of the national government agencies involved in the proposed multi-billion Panglao Bohol International Airport project will meet with Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacanang on Oct. 6. The Panglao project was earlier announced by the President to be completed by April next year. Gov. Erico Aumentado who is known for his mega projects in the province categorically and a known political leader of the President has more than often relayed Ms. Arroyo’s commitment to complete the project within her term. The latest developments revealed that due to the delayed implementation of the project, the cost overrun of the project would cost 76%, increasing the project cost to P7.5 billion as against the outlay of P4.2 billion previously approved by the National Economic Development Authority-ICC technical board. He further cited that what aggravated the problem in the sourcing of funds was the “realignment by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) of the allocation for airports under the Department of Transportation & Communication (DOTC) outlay to the Civil Aeronautics Aviation Authority (CAAP). Invited to attend the October 6 Palace meeting were DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza, MIAA GM Alfonso Cusi, DBM Secretary Rolando Andaya, PTA General Manager Mark Lapid, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, CAAP chief/PPA General Manager Oscar Sevilla, NEDA-ICC Technical Board Chairman Rolando Tungpalan and Rep. Crucial meeting on Panglao Airport with GMA set Oct. 6

Crucial meeting on the the Panglao Bohol International Airport, with Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacanang on Oct. 6, will reveal the fate of the multi-billion airport. Gov. Erico Aumentado told the President that if the airport project would be derailed, then, it “could be the biggest issue in Bohol against the administration candidates.” The governor who is a known political leader of the President has oftentimes relayed Ms. Arroyo’s commitment to complete the project within her term. However, latest developments revealed that due to the delayed implementation of the project, the cost overrun of the project would cost 76%, increasing the project cost to P7.5 billion as against the outlay of P4.2 billion previously approved by the National Economic Development Authority-ICC technical board. The meeting is expected to address the problems on the airport project, particularly on the funding requirement. The new cost estimate came out after the Philippine Japan Airports Consultants (Phil-JAC) completed its detailed engineering works for the airport project recently. DOH-7 says generics reduce cost of high-priced drugs

Department of Health (DOH-7)Health officials debunked notions that generic drugs are of lesser quality than their branded counterparts as they emphasized that using generics has actually reduce the prices of medicines especially branded drugs. DOH-7 Chief of Regulatory and Licensing Division Dr. Angelita Salarda said government is promoting the use of generics in order to provide the public with an option as generic drugs are more affordable and offers more savings compared to their branded counterparts. The health official said prices of medicines in the country is four to seven times higher than our Asian neighbors while the Philippines is second to Japan with very expensive costs of drugs. DOH-Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD-7) Head Monina Coyoca on the other hand, said government physicians are required to prescribe generics to their patients while private medical practitioners should likewise prescribe generic drugs but can place brand names in parenthesis. The DOH recently signed an agreement with the Cancer Warriors Foundation to invest P20M for the purchase of generic anti-cancer medications. The move is seen to benefit children with leukemia. Three dead due to typhoon ‘Ondoy’?

As eastern towns were plagued with flash floods, due to the tropical depression “Ondoy”, 3 persons were dead in separate drowning incidents. P01 Christopher Aceron (Jagna) confirmed that a certain Aldrin Honasa , 35 year old resident of barangay Canjulao, Jagna, drowned. Police report said that Honasa, who was drunk, teased to his family that he can swim in the flash floods along the Canjulao river. Other reports say that while drunk he waded the river towards his house right across but did not make it through. In Duero, Joseph Rances, 22 years old, single and a resident of Poblacion,also drowned. Rances was reportedly drunk when he fell into the river. His house is located beside the river. Whil Candijay Mayor Sergio Amora, Jr. said he heard reports about a lifeless body found somewhere in Canawa.The lifeless body remained unidentified as of this writing and cause of the death remained clueless.
