Outfall of Drainage Opened

The closed drainage outfall was suddenly opened last Thursday (Nov. 6) by the City Engineer’s Office crew regardless of the absence of an official clearance from Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The said drainage was purposely closed due to the existence of some illegally tapped sewerage connections. Gov. Erico Aumentado who was in the midst of negotiations regarding the drainage controversy was shocked upon learning on the city hall’s decision to open the drainage outfall even as no coordination meeting has been called since the time he had a one-on-one talk with the city mayor. The governor was informed by PENRO Nestor Canda when he checked the situation on the drainage outfall opening while he was in Manila last Thursday. City Consultant, Engr. Cecil Corloncito who arrived from Australia supervised the opening of the outfall last Thursday while claiming that a laboratory test showed the water content to be safe for release to the seawaters. However, said lab test was not acceptable to DENR since only results from accredited laboratories are being accepted. Click for full...

Bohol bankers assure, No worries despite global fiscal strain

LEARNING from the 1997 Asian economic crisis has helped the Philippines “float over the waves of the global financial storm,” Bohol Bankers jointly agree. Bankers here agree that the country has in place strong economic fundamentals and strong credit policies and this would insulate the country for the sweeping fiscal crisis. Speaking at the Kapihan sa PIA last week, Bohol Bankers Association (BBA) headed by banker Rodney Lumuthang along with the group’s Board of Directors assured Boholano depositors that the phenomenon of the global economic crisis is not a thing to worry about. The global financial strain has recently stirred depositors who think that the meltdown in major US financial establishments could cause unthinkable repercussions in the world, which depends fairly on the US economy. Here however, bankers noted not much ripples caused and BBA Chairman Lumuthang along with UnionBank’s Marius Borja assured “we have in place a stable financial fundamentals, and the public should know that the banks are committed to protect the interest of our depositors.” Click for the full article at the official PIA...

Batuan wins an ambulance and Mayor Grecoria Pepito could not help but cry over her luck. The lady mayor could not believe her luck when the rolled paper she picked contained the lucky mark that earned for her town a brand new ambulance worth more than a million pesos. Pepito was just one of the 24 mayors who have to implore for luck as the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Bohol Chapter decided to put the ambulance for raffle. League executive Vice President Roberto Salinas proposed the league to craft the ground rules, which the league did after brief deliberations. The league members agreed that only those without an ambulance or those struggling to keep an old ambulance running would be qualified for the draw. They also agreed that towns not represented by their mayors during the meeting were automatically disqualified. Click for the full...

Chocolate Hills May Not Become one of the New Seven Wonders

The N7W committee implemented a rule that only one nominee per country will make it to the final selection starting 2009. Currently the Chocolate Hills is 2nd in the Philippines behind Palawan Subterrainean River and 4th overall. However, even with less than two months to go, the Chocolate Hills might still have a chance if all Boholanos will cast their vote on the N7W website. In the coming weeks, we will publish a series of articles showing the status of the Chocolate Hills in the ranking. We encourage all schools, training centers, offices, Internet cafes and every organization in Bohol and everywhere else to organize voting sessions. If you have suggestions or want to volunteer some help in any form, please send email to techsier@auza.net. Please visit www.n7w.com and cast your vote now! Of course, we hate to say this, but vote only for the Chocolate Hills and other nominees that have less ranking as Chocolate Hills. That will help push Bohol on top of the ranking. If the Chocolate Hills will make it, Bohol will get a tremendous amount of tourism marketing worldwide and that means a very significant opportunity for every Boholano in the coming...
