MANILA, October 24 (PIA)–Gipahinumdoman sa Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ang nagkalain-laing kumpanya kalabot sa pagpahigayon og random drug testing sa ilang mga empleyado. Matud pa ni DOLE Kalihim Silvestre Bello III, istrikto kining ipatuman sa ahensiya base sa Department Order 53-03 kalabot sa mga sumbanan sa mga polisiya ug programa sa Drug-Free Workplace. Nahisulod sa maong department order ang tanang naa sa pribadong sektor, bisan ang mga contractor ug concessionaires niini. Gawas sa mga polisiya ug programa kalabot sa drug abuse prevention and control, giingong angay usab hingosgan sa mga sektor ang pag-implementar sa adbokasiya, edukasyon, pagbansay, drug testing program, treatment, rehabilitation and referral, ug monitoring and evaluation alang sa ilang mga empleyado. 6th 263 kms Bohol Unity ride pedals off Saturday

TAGBILARAN CITY, May 8, (PIA)–Bike enthusiasts: mountain bikers and roadies including those with tri-aero bikes gather as much energy this week in preparation for the 263 kilometers 2017 Unity Bike Ride for Peace, Environment and Anti drugs, set May 13-14. An event organizers, TriBohol said the ride needs no Lycra, no training, no racing, is just an easy fun. Bohol’s 2017 Unity Ride is on its 6th year of taking the entire belt road of the island, Bohol Circumferential Road, in a two-day fun ride that unites all bike enthusiasts and the bike clubs all over the province. Taking the Tagbilaran to Talibon route on day 1, the Unity riders, would meet up at the Plaza Rizal in Tagbilaran from 3:30 AM May 13. They would then set off via the eastern belt to Jagna where the ride breakfast would happen as riders check in between 8:00 to 9:00. Then the bikers would take the road again to Ubay some 53.3 kilometers for lunch and the noon break. While the organizers have assured the hot summer ride would have both emergency medical support and police escorts, rests have been declared to riders, between 11 to 2 PM. The ride picks up again in the afternoon to the long flat highway to Talibon, about 38.2 kilometers away. In Talibon, riders would relax with a unity rider program and solidarity night of games, raffles and dinner, before preparing for the next morning’s ride. By May 14, the group would be leaving Talibon at 4:30 and is expected to be in Tubigon around 8:00 for the breakfast, before heading off again back...

City aged dependents get P500 VAT subsidy

SEPTUAGENARIAN dependents here joined City Mayor Dan Lim in thanking President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the P500 Katas ng VAT para kay Lolo and Lola one-time subsidy. The program, which the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo put up, gets its fund from savings when the country imposed the 12% Value Added Tax (VAT) on goods and services. Beneficiaries of the Katas ng VAT are the country’s over-seventy-year olds who are not getting any pension and are totally dependent, explained Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral who personally launched the activity. According to her, the president has earmarked P500M to help one million of the country’s septuagenarians who have no pensions or are earning below the poverty thresholds. “This is the President’s way of extending to you her recognition for your contribution to nation building, Sec. Cabral told the 200 beneficiaries from the city’s 15 districts gathered during the event. “This is the Presidents gift for you, for all the Boholanos and to all the senior citizens of the country,” she pointed out. City Social welfare officer Dr. Teresita Villafuerte said they have predetermined the 200 beneficiaries since August and only those whose incomes fall below the P6,000 poverty threshold are prioritized for the subsidy. At the ceremonial launching held at the City Hall Atrium, Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Director Teodolo Romo said the Bohol event also marked the beginning of subsidy distributions in Central Visayas. DepED ok’s Catigbian’s Haguilanan High School

THE fifth secondary school in Catigbian town rises following the Department of Education’s (DepED) official approval of the new Haguilanan High School (HHS), Mayor Roberto Salinas reported lately. HHS, with 56 students from nearby Catigbian barangays and neighboring Balilihan town comes as the 3rd government public school here. HHS comes after Mantacida High School in barangay Mantacida, Catigbain National high School in Poblacion, Holy Child Academy in Baang and Immaculate Mary Academy also in Poblacion. Both Holy Child Academy and Immaculate Mary Academy are private secondary schools. Ever insisting on putting up one more secondary school despite knowing it would burden the town with operational subsidy costs, Salinas said it would be worth to make quality public secondary education accessible to his constituents. Over the development, the mayor said Catigbianons were filled with great jubilation. DepEd, through Dr. Clemen Jala, representing Dr. School’s Division Superintendent Elpidio Jala turned over the pertinent documents to Matyor Salinas in simple ceremonies, the mayor said. Catigbian has made another record, Dr. Jala accordingly said. In the history of Bohol secondary schools, what several applicants take years to process, Catigbian did theirs in less than three months, Jala said in his brief message at the rites. Now wanting to grab all the credit for the recent achievement, mayor Salinas also named those whom the credits would be shared and who have become instrumental in their positive achievement. Gov’t to equip peace workers sent for fact finding missions

HONING further the skills of the local monitoring board (LMB) teams investigating alleged human rights abuses and violations committed by government forces and the communist rebels, the government sends in experts to train local peace workers in fact-finding missions. The seminar workshop on fact-finding set October 14, 2008 at the Bohol Plaza Resort, gathers members of the Bohol Local Monitoring Board (LMB-Bohol) and other individuals involved in fact finding missions sent by the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) to gather information on alleged human rights abuses. The workshop supported by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) Monitoring Committee is aimed at equipping local peace workers with the appropriate tools in fact finding missions. As a special support arm of the PPOC and LMB Bohol, teams conduct fact finding missions on alleged human rights abuses and has become a regular PPOC activity since 2001 until it became instituted in 2004, says LMB member and Philippine Information Agency’s Yvette Bede Matabalan. The workshop would be handled by resource persons from the Philippine Alliance of Human rights Advocates and the Commission on Human Rights national legal and investigative office, she added. Bohol’s fact finding missions on alleged human rights abuses has been recognized as laudable by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), the GRP Peace Panel, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government and non-government organizations.
