SEMPO secures 50 grams Of Shabu in 8 hours opns

For one day, Bohol police authorities implementing the Synchronized Enhanced Managing of Police Operations (SEMPO) confiscated nearly 50 grams of illegal drugs, nabbed 57 and permanently neutralized 2 drug personalities, August 16. Camp Dagohoy, Bohol Provincial Police Office through Police Chief Inspector Mohammed Jul Jamiri said in 57 simultaneous operations during the day, the force also confiscated 28 fire-arms of different calibers, further intensifying the supply and demand reduction program of the Philippine National police. Reporting at the Provincial Peace and Order Council gathered for the first out of town joint council meeting with the Anti-Drug Abuse Council inside the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall of Loon, Inspector Jamiri who sits as the Camp Dagohoy operations officer, explained that the SEMPO is a recalibrated One Time Big Time, which was the anti-crime thrust during the Chief PNP dela Rosa incumbency. Claimed to be the biggest and widest crackdown against illegal drugs and its trade as well as illegal fire-arms conducted within eight hours, the SEMPO which had months upon months of planning, had police simultaneously swooping down on illegal drug personalities, several of them surrenderees during Oplan Tokhang. While many drug personalities who surrendered to authorities after the police knocked in their homes and pleaded for them to surrender, stop drugs and get into a rehabilitation program, thought everything was just for show. “At first, we saw the police authorities were serious as the President was very serious about eliminating the drug problem,” a surrenderee timidly confessed. But a lull in the operations after the surrender had many thinking the storm has passed, and the climate has cleared to go... read more

Bohol church bends to plant trees in ‘Season of Creation’

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol September 2 (PIA)—The church of the poor here takes the step and bends in helping the communities put up measures to prop up its disaster and climate change mitigation as well as set up carbon capturing mechanism in leading parishioners to plant trees. According to GlobalForestWatch.org, in 2010, Philippines had 14.9Mhectares of tree cover, extending over 50% of its land area. In 2017 however, it lost 114,000 hectares of tree cover, equivalent to 12.1 metric tons of Carbon dioxide emissions. The same group also noted that in 2010, Bohol had 165,000 hectare of tree cover, extending to over 41% of its land area. In 2017 however, the tourism island lost 583hectare of tree cover, equivalent to 57.4 kilo tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Already feeling the effects of climate change which has held communities in the country practically helpless against the stronger typhoons, more rains and longer droughts, the local church decided to do its little part. The target is to put up 50,000 trees, Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran Alberto Uy explained during a radio program last week. Beyond that, it is a way of adding to food security, Cortes parish priest Roderick Pizarras told the community gathered for the first mass September 2. Pizarras, like all the parish priests, blessed the seedlings which the local Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Bohol Biodiversity Center provided for possibly the widest church-based Tree Planting and Tree Growing activity. Bishop Uy, who has also other social action projects including the provision of low cost housing for the underprivileged through BalaysaKabus, explained that instead... read more

On survey results: I am humbled–Aris

By JUNE S. BLANCO REP. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) is the people’s choice. This, after Aumentado clinched a 92% satisfaction rating from respondents in his district of the latest round of Bohol Polls conducted by the Holy Name University (HNU) –Tagbilaran’s Center for Research and Publications – with an unprecedented zero dissatisfaction rating. Aumentado thanked his constituents for the trust and confidence vested in him. He said he sees the high rating as a challenge to do even better for them. He admits that the fund he has successfully tapped from national government agencies for projects in his district may only be meager and not enough for all their needs. But, he vowed, he will strive even more. He emphasized that no matter how small such funding may be, he assures them that he will constantly monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure that these are done according to standards and corruption-free. He said he will not exchange for anything else the joy and satisfaction he feels on seeing the plight of his constituents alleviated with the help of the government. The solon has been living up to the principles and work ethics of his namesake father and immediate congressional predecessor, former congressman and governor Erico Boyles Aumentado. Top in his projects are those he pursued after his father’s death, including unfinished and pipeline projects: irrigation from the National Irrigation Authority, electrification of the islands from the National Electrification Administration, road improvement through convergence projects of the tourism, and the trade and industry departments with the Department of Public Works and Highways, multipurpose buildings also from DPWH,...

Bohol bids for NWC Reinstatement for Tagbilaran City, Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, October 7 (PIA)—The bid to get Bohol back into the list of next wave cities (NWC) for prospectors of information technology’s business process management (IT-BPM) starts anew this week as private and public sectors bring Digital Bohol Summit here October 15 and 14. Set in an auspicious time when an earthquake in Bohol effectively cancelled the supposedly best time for the city and the province to showcase why it is the next best place for a BPM venture in 2013, the ICT summit now would be a chance at redemption for Bohol’s failed dream of showing off its potential as NWC call center hub. “It is our desire that Tagbilaran City maintains its presence in the ICT/BPM radar and become an investment location for the industry,” Governor Edgar Chatto said. The government has identified the IT-BPM as the biggest thing for the Philippines, with the potential for jobs and advancement neatly tucked in it. Organized by the Provincial Government through its Bohol Investment Promotion Center (BIPC) in coordination with Bohol ICT Council, Tagbilaran City and the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Summit brings to Bohol key information communication technology big wigs who would be witnessing the launching of the local ICT BPM development roadmap billed as “Digital Bohol Project.” City Hall through Jeanette Laila Busano said “the summit will introduce and feed a roadmap for “Digital Bohol” — a plan for holistic digital inclusion in Bohol that aims to set the standard for how local leaders can collaborate to harness technology to empower business, government and civil society — the project will start in Tagbilaran...

Niadtong Setyembre, ang DTI nipatuman og prize freeze order human sa pagdeklarar og state of national emergency tungod sa state of lawlessness ni Presidente Rodrigo Duterte. Pinaagi sa maong prize freeze order, mapanalipdan ang mga konsumidor gikan sa abusadong negosyante nga magpasulabi og pasaka sa presyo sa ilang mga baligyang produkto. Aris brgy bldg spree now worth over P161M

By JUNE S. BLANCO A TOTAL of 230 out of 346 barangays in Bohol’s 2nd District are now building barangay halls, expanding or adding rooms to existing ones or building multipurpose buildings that also serve as evacuation centers in case of calamities. This after Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado gave these barangays an average of P700,000 each from the amount he inserted into the budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the current General Appropriations Act (GAA). Aumentado expressed confidence that he will complete the distribution to the remaining 116 barangays within this, his second term as congressman. Just like his namesake father and immediate congressional predecessor Erico Boyles Aumentado, the son said the amount is for counter-parting with the funds of the concerned barangay and such other funds that it may source elsewhere. This way, the solon explained, the barangay can build bigger projects. He cited the barangay hall and covered court of Sto, Niño, Inabanga now under construction costing P850,000 and P2 million respectively. The covered court can double as an evacuation center should the need arise. Aumentado said this realization came in the heels of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Bohol on October 15, 2013. He explained that while scientists have said an earthquake of such magnitude strikes only once in around 100 years, Bohol cannot discount the probability of, God forbid, floods, typhoons, fires and other calamities. This prompted him to pursue the construction of multipurpose buildings with rain collectors. The rain collectors can provide water especially in islands. The stored water buttresses the supply from artesian and deepwells, or even...
