Rep. Aris: DPWH allocates P5M for feasibility study of Talibon-BU bridge

By JUNE S. BLANCO THREE years after Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) first filed the bill proposing the construction of a bridge to link Bien Unido and Talibon towns in northern Bohol, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated P5 million for its full-blown feasibility study. During the pre-feasibility study, the team that conducted an ocular inspection of the possible anchor sites for the proposed bridge to link the two towns had identified Barangays San Isidro in Talibon and Nueva Esperanza in Bien Unido. Seawaters surrounding both barangays are observed to be shallow. Aumentado said while Bien Unido is adjacent to Talibon, one has to travel some 20 kilometers if he has some business or has something to buy in the latter which is the bigger town. Bien Unido and Talibon are both on the mainland, but they are points on promontories separated by a bay. With the bridge only five kilometers long, travel time will be drastically cut short. As a result, more business, like the transport of goods from one town to the other, can be done in a day. The solon expressed hope that the feasibility study will turn out good. Once completed, he said this means the cost of goods will go down hence, prices of commodities will reduce. The market linkage will also spur economic development for the two towns. Then DPWH Sec. Rogelio Singson had sent the composite team of engineers and technical personnel from the national and regional offices. But current Sec. Mark Villar had effected the allocation of P5 million for the feasibility study. A 2015 DPWH...

Duterte: economic restrictions needed to lure investors. jobs

TAGBILARAN CITY, July 26 (PIA)–President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration hints economic restrictions to attract more investments as he lays out the country’s job generation policy, insisting local government units to keep up and open its doors to more investments. In his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered before the joint session of the senate and the members of the house of representative during the opening of the 17th Congress, Duterte, points out investments for development telegraphed his bias for negotiations over the usual hard stance against rallying critics, that being better policy to calm investors. Instead of barricades and shields for the riot police which was readied as a fixture for the SONA, he allowed police to mingle with the rallyists who, in the most recent years, got closest to the Batasang Pambansa on a SONA Day. Duterte opened Commonwealth Avenue and had Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa in a dialogue with rallyists hours before he delivered his SONA. While on it, the president who in surveys has just enjoyed over 90% trust ratings said “We shall continue to attract investments that will generate thousands of jobs each year—jobs that are suitable for the poor and less skilled members of the workforce.” Even before the SONA, which the president traditionally delivers every time the Congress every 4th Monday of July, Duterte has already instructed his cabinet secretaries to cascade his development priorities and policies. He said issuing permits and licenses should be done in three days, no necessary follow-ups. In Bohol for example, four days prior to the SONA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7...

Capitol sponsored Jobs fair for pre-registered applicants open Friday, at the ICMall

TAGBILARAN CITY, July 26 (PIA)–Job seekers, Bohol Capitol is sponsoring a jobs fair this Friday, July 29, but applicants, to be entertained by employers, need to pre register. According to Capitol’s Bohol Employment and Placement Office (BEPO), an attached office of the Office of the Governor, registrations for Friday Fair are facilitated at the BEPO or the municipal Public Employment Service Office (PESO). BEPO Ma. Vilma Yorong said the Jobs Fair, which happens at the Island City Mall Activity Center opens for overseas and local employment. Signifying interest to join the first Provincial Government sponsored fair this year are 25 recruitment and employment agencies, each with their own options for local and overseas slots, Yorong said. Aimed at bringing government services closer to its constituents, the jobs fair is among Bohol’s local efforts at facilitating proper jobs matching amid the rising problems of underemployment due to over-qualification. Due to the expected turn-out, which could be very good considering the past Bohol sponsored jobs matching, BEPO has decided for the pre-registration as a strategy to also help PESO come up with a local directory of skills for future uses, BEPO explained. At the PESO or BEPO, job fair organizers advised job applicants to bring the necessary documents to show to the PESO so the applicant can be listed according to skills or capacities. Only thos who have pre-registered would be entertained this Friday, BEPO warns. On Friday, applicants need still to come to the ICM in smart casual attire and present their documents including a comprehensive resume, school diploma or transcript of records and other job related certificates and employment...
