“The position of the President, as far as the death penalty is concerned, has not changed. He is not for the death penalty. Well, the position of the President always, when it comes to any form of crime, is (that) the effective deterrent of crime would be the knowledge that there will be certainty of punishment,” matud pa ni Valte. Boholanos Say Final Goodbye to Cong. Aumentado

Boholanos will say their final goodbye to the late Cong. Erico B. Aumentado today, January 5, 2013.  The remains of the congressman, who also served three consecutive terms as governor of Bohol from 2001-2010, will be transferred to the Provincial Capitol main lobby for public viewing and at 2pm, will be transferred to the St. Joseph Cathedral for the requiem mass and necrological service.  A 21 gun salute will be conducted during the interment at the Victoria Memorial Park. Several organizations and individuals proceeded to the last night of the late congressman’s wake at the Bohol Cultural Center.  The venue was filled with Boholanos from all walks of life, some traveling from the northern part of Bohol.  Some individuals wore t-shirts saying Aumentado was their hero. Outside the venue, large banners were displayed expressing gratitude to the former governor of the province.  The trademark “Kalsada Sementado” banner was also displayed.  Aumentado was credited for being able to complete the circumferencial road of Bohol including many other major highways connecting several towns in Bohol that were previously almost inaccessible.  The much improved road networked helped increase tourism, farm-to-market access and business activities in general. He was also able to put up several irrigation projects that enabled farmers to increase agricultural output, allowing Bohol to be self sufficient on rice.  He was also responsible for enabling electricity to be provided to remote towns and even some islands that were left out due to difficult access by the electric cooperatives. The schedule of activities for the interment as published on the Aumentado’s Facebook is as follows: January 5, 2013 8:00 am Remains... read more

TRAIN

Certainly, Bohol local government officials move in making Bohol a tough place for drug dealers is making headway. If there is a single most stunning imagery that the two years long crusade against drugs which police colonel Dennis Agustin is leading, it is a train that is heading places. We once believed the contention is nothing but a sniff of bad air. Air. Nothing substantial. But that there is somebody high up the government ladder tinkering with the tracks shifting the campaign train to wherever directions they want, is now a railroading truth. We have seen the folly of all these claims of victories against drugs. Quixotic because, like the man who fought windmills, fighting drugs in Bohol has not been as kind to the police director as its is as foolish fighting a lost cause. By all indications, the number of sniffing advocates and the peddlers now languishing or were given a the time at the slammers, could be numerous. At the Provincial Peace and Order Council reports of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, if one does not notice something regularly laughable, then that one is getting calloused. In over 358 cases filed against drug personalities since January to July of this year, we have heard of only 2 people convicted and sentenced. And 12 are acquitted. 33 are dismissed. No. not funny. Not at all. The problem could be this serious: cops are damned they could only pound flimsy cases. And the prosecution, seeing how risky it really is for the police to hand the time to drug criminals, also smell fear when walking out of the...
