Bangon Marawi: DTI fasttracks assistance to IDPs

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is keen on fasttracking the revival of Marawi City’s illustrious business environment as the agency looks to provide more assistance to affected Maranao entrepreneurs. “We plan to allocate more budget for this year to support the Bangon Marawi programs to provide livelihood assistance to around 80% of identified internally displaced persons (IDPs) in 2018,” said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez. DTI Regional Operations Group (ROG) Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said that the agency has set aside Php 50 million to fund the Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project and will seek additional budget to fund the provision of livelihood starter kits, micro loans,mobile rice mills, tricycles, construction of public markets, and provision of retail spaces in major malls to promote Maranao products, among others. “We will continue to provide assistance to our brothers and sisters in Marawi. As of now we are working to assist Maranao entrepreneurs with micro loans through the Pondo sa Pagbabago at Pag-asenso or P3, mobile rice mills, tricycles, and equipment,” Maglaya said. The P50 million SSF fund will help address the needs of Maranao entrepreneurs in the aspect of loomweaving,wood working, and brasswares by providing equipment that matches their needs, she added. The agency, through the Small Business Corporation (SB Corp), also released a total of P375,000 micro loans in the form of P3 to 37 Maranao borrowers, who were also recipient of DTI’s business starter kits, received assistance from DTI. DTI to create more smarter entrepreneurs through mentoring, coaching program

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) looks to create more smarter entrepreneurs through mentoring and coaching programs with the Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Program. Under the 7Ms initiative of the Department, the Kapatid Mentor ME aims to strengthen the strategy for Philippine Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development, which are mindset, mastery, mentoring, market, money, machines, models, propelling MSMEs to make headway in increasing the competitive market. DTI Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said the agency will expand the KMME Program after a successful pilot run in 2017 with 2,663 MSMEs, finishing the 10-week mentoring program. “When we launched KMME nationwide last year. We were able to generate 28,202 attendees. As of end of 2017, we have at least a total of 2,663 [MSME] graduates or mentees. These are the ones who have undergone 10-week session of intensive training and mentoring by MSMEs themselves,” Maglaya said, adding that the agency targets to hike the number of MSMEs assisted by 5,000 this year or 20% increase of the total attendees. The Kapatid Mentor ME Program aims to assist MSMEs scale up and sustain their businesses through weekly coaching and mentoring by business owners and practitioners on different functional areas of entrepreneurship. The 11-week program will have weekly modules such as Marketing, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Operations Management among others. Startups and MSMEs attend Forum on Support to Innovation Initiatives

Owners of startups and MSMEs attended the Forum on Support to Innovation Initiatives on May 19, 2016 at the JJs Seafoods Village, Tagbilaran City. The forum was organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Bohol, the Department of Trade and Industry – Bohol, FabLab, Bohol Island State University and the Bohol ICT Council. OIC Provincial Director of DTI-Bohol Mr. Jose D. Hibaya gave the welcome remarks while Engr. Marcial C. Tanggaan, DOST Provincial Director spoke to the participants about the initiatives and available programs of DOST for startups and MSMEs. Auza.Net Accepts Applicants for Summer 2015 OJT Program

Auza.Net will hold its on-the-job training program starting April 2015 for students of IT related courses who are required to undergo OJT. Interested students may now send their application letters, resume and transcript of records for selection. Deadline of submission is on March 18, 2015. The company will hold interviews and may conduct exams or computer skills demonstrations in the selection process. Bohol kickstarts program to address out of school youth

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Effective Development Communications Unit Bohol enters into a new collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Asian Development Bank, and the Government of Canada for JobStart Philippines. Gov. Edgar Chatto is set to sign the agreement for the partnership with DOLE, ADB and the Canadian Government on March 4 at the HEAT IT Bohol caravan in Bilar. A first in the country for a province, JobStartPH, a partnership initiative seeks to assist young Filipinos who wish to join the labor force by providing opportunities to not only improve their technical skills but also develop life skills required to succeed in the workplace. JobStartPH also aims to strengthen guidance services, labor market information, and job search assistance for employment officers. The program, which will be implemented through the Bohol Employment and Placement Office (BEPO) under the Office of the Governor, will accommodate out of school youth aged 18-24 who have finished high school but are not unemployed and have had a year or less work experience. BEPO will facilitate the pre-qualification and registration of Boholano youth and select beneficiaries, which job-readiness will be assessed and provided life skills training, career guidance, and labor market information. BEPO will then match the trained youth to available internships and provide referrals, after which the youth will train under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to acquire the necessary skills for the internship with the employers. Bohol to host 1st Philippine Int’l Fossil Conference

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Effective Development Communications Unit Bohol will host the 15th International Nannoplankton Association Conference on March 7-12, 2015 in Panglao. A first in the Philippines, the international conference gathers scientists from all over the world who have interest in living or fossil calcerous nannoplankton. The Nannoworks Laboratory of the National Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of the Philippines Diliman won the bid to host the biennial conference over other groups from the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Germany. This is only the second time that the conference will be held in Asia, after Japan, since it began in 1985. Geology Professor Alyssa Peleo-Alampay and co-organizer Associate Professor Allan Gil Fernando, both proud and honored to be hosting the event said the conference is a great opportunity not just for the institute but also for the Philippine scientific community to prove that the country is at par with other developed countries in this scientific field. TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, February 24 (PIA) —The Panglao Airport or officially the New Bohol Airport Project in Panglao (NBAP) has not officially commenced its civil works, but the government has rolled out a bid for its operation and maintenance. As early as December of 2014, when the Bidding and Awards Committee Chairman and Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Undersecretary Jose Perpetuo Lotilla signed the Notice of Award to the winning bidder of the P7.1 billion Panglao airport, DOTC has rolled out some P116.2 billion bundled contracts for 6 airports, including Panglao. The Philippine Star, a national daily broadsheet published last December 15, 2014 the bundled contract for a concessionaire to develop, operate and maintain (O and M) 6 provincial airports, for 30 years. O and M or Panglao airport runs at P4.57 billion, according to DOTC. “The DOTC said the 30-year concession contract would be awarded through a competitive bidding following the rules and procedures prescribed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) Law, the published article stated. Bohol ICT Council General Assembly Rescheduled to March 4

The Bohol Information and Communications Technology Council General Assembly originally scheduled for February 21, 2015 has been rescheduled to March 4, 2015. The organizers said that a significant number of participants wish to attend the funeral of the late Loreto “Loy” Palapos on the original schedule. Palapos was an active civil servant and was the President of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry when he passed away last week. BCCI is represented in the Bohol ICT Council.
