Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, chair of the National Disaster Coordinating Council, was commended by Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Lorelie Fajardo in behalf of Malacanang for immediately and efficiently pulling in manpower to rescue the victims of the sinking Super Ferry 9.
While Aboitiz Power Corporation President and CEO Erramon I. Aboitiz lauded the cooperation shown by all sectors in the community led by the government which prevented a massive damage of the said accident.
Aboitiz also mentioned the help exerted by its competitor Oceanic Shipping owned by Mr. Jolly Go for sending a couple of its vessels to rescue the victims. Aboitiz told the media that the company is supportive to Marina ‘s call for a strict inspection of their vessels.
However, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo still ordered the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. (PIA)
