Malacañang stressed the need for the support of the people for the military, who are spearheading government efforts to suppress lawlessness and violence against civilian populations in certain areas of Mindanao.
In an interview, Press Secretary Jesus Dureza said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recognizes the importance of soldiers who are always in the frontlines in any campaign of the government to ensure the protection of national security and sovereignty.
“Being so, there is a need for people support for the military to suppress any threats on the lives of the Filipino people’, Dureza stressed.
Dureza added that the President has been supporting the military through the AFP modernization program, financial assistance, among others; including housing that they never enjoyed before. (PIA/Bohol)
