President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called on regional and world leaders to “unite and come up with a coordinated approach” in dealing with the financial crisis sweeping the world.
She cited the urgent need for the “developed countries or G7 to consider the interest of developing countries in their plan to prevent a worldwide economic meltdown.”
She also called on ASEAN leaders to come up with common actions in order to prepare for any contingencies that may happen in ASEAN.
The president also proposed that member countries of ASEAN plus 3 to convene and discuss on the impact of the global crisis.
ASEAN +3 is composed of ASEAN regional member countries Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and ASEN’s three neighboring countries — China, Japan and Korea. (PIA/Bohol)
