TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Sept. 17 (PIA)–Ang Pilipinas ang unang nasud nga nag-export og mga saging sa Estados Unidos human niabot ang unang shipment sa mga highland cavendish gikan sa Bukidnon.
Ang unang shipment nga 7,407 metric tons niabot sa pier sa Los Angeles, California niadtong Setyembre 9 ug una sa gibanabanang 3,000 metric tons sa saging nga e-export karong tuig, matud pa sa opisyal nga pahayag sa Philippine Embassy sa Washington, D.C.
“With this shipment, we are hopeful that Philippine bananas would be able to find and satisfy a niche in the competitive US banana market.”
“We also hope that this is the beginning of increased access of Philippine bananas in North America,” matud pa ni Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia, Jr.
Matud pa usab ni Agriculture Attache Dr. Josyline C. Javelosa, ang shipment niabot walo ka tuig human unang nag-request ang Pilipinas nga magbaton og access sa Estados Unidos alang sa mga saging sa nasud.
Gisaksihan usab ni Javelosa, kauban nila Consul General Hellen Barber Dela Vega ug Trade Representative Jose Dinsay ang unang shipment sa pier.
“Philippine bananas are among the best in the world and there is opportunity to bring in the unique and special banana varieties like lakatan and latondan, which Filipinos in the US have long been craving for and which Americans can learn to love,” matud pa ni Javelosa.
Dole Philippines ang mag-export sa mga saging sa parent company niini sa Amerika nga Dole Food Company Inc. ug ibutang sa Sweetio brand. Migikan ang shipment sa Pilipinas niadtong Agosto 20 gikan sa Mindanao International Container Terminal sa Tagolan, Misamis Oriental.
Dugang pa ni Javelosa, daku ang matabang sa bag-ong market sa mga saging sa Pilipinas aron mas mapalambo pa ang industriya sa saging, ilabi na sa mga lugar sa Mindanao nga grabeng naapektuhan sa mga nilabay nga bagyo.
Gawas sa Estados Unidos, apil ang Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Middle East, Canada, Russia, ug Indonesia nga overseas market sa mga saging sa Pilipinas.
