Kongreso imbestigahan ang giingong jueteng protectors

ANG duha ka kamara sa Kongreso mohimog managlahing imbestigasyon sa gipahayag ni retired Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz nga adunay ubang opisyal sa administrasyong Aquino ang nagdawat og binuwang suhol gikan sa jueteng operators.

Sa Senado, si Senador Miriam Defensor-Santiago nipasaka sa Senate Resolution No. 167 niadtong Lunes aron pag imbestigar sa gikatahong pagbalik sa jueteng, usa ka inila nga illegal numbers game, ug sa giingong mga protektor niini sa mga opisina sa gobyerno.

Sa House of Representatives, si Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rofriguez ug iyang igsuon nga si Abante Mindanao party-list Rep. Maximo Rodriguez, ug Ako Bicol party-list Reps. Christopher Co, Rodel Batocabe ug Alfredo Garbin nipasaka sa Resolutions 393 ug 388, aron pag imbestigar sa mga alegasyon ni retired Lingayen Archbishop Oscar Cruz.

Ang managsuong Rodriguez nagkanayon nga gikinahanglan gayud ang labing dali nga imbestigasyon sa maong mga alegasyon aron pagtin-aw sa mga isyo ug aron mailhan na sa publiko ang mga giingong nagdawat og suhol gikan sa illegal numbers game. (PIA)

Rep. Belmonte elected as House Speaker

THE House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly, 227 against 29, for Quezon City Rep. Feliciano Belmonte Jr. as the House Speaker.

The House session started at exactly 10 a.m. with Secretary General Marilyn Barua Yap presiding over the proceedings.

Liberal Party (LP) secretary general and Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya nominated Belmonte while Representatives Bernadeth Herrera Dy, Arnulfo Fuentebella, Rolando Andaya, Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Vincent Crisologo, seconded the motion.

Belmonte went up against Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, who was nominated by fellow Lakas-Kampi-CMD member Isabela Rep. Rodolfo Albano, Rep. Danilo Suarez, and Rep. Augusto Syjuco Jr.

All in all, 258 House members attended the opening of the session and nearly 88 percent of them (or 237 members) voted for Belmonte.

Belmonte previously held the House’s top post from Jan. 24, 2001 to June that same year. He then went on to serve as Quezon City mayor until winning as congressman of the city’s fourth district during the recent May 10 polls. (PIA-Bohol)

House body to probe Alleged poll irregularity

THE House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms would meet anytime this week to conduct probes on allegations of poll irregularity, reports confirmed.

Speaking for Speaker Prospero Nograles, Representative Teodoro Locsin Jr. invited committee members to investigate and clarify the alleged anomalies of the May 10 automated polls, same quoted reports bared.

The move also earned the support of election watch-dogs who gathered reports of irregularities and anomalies.

Locsin added that the committee would hold its sessions and would not take a break until June 30.

Meanwhile, many people have agreed that the recent automated elections went generally well and eliminated the processes where possible electoral fraud could be done. (PIA-Bohol)
