The Elderly Filipino Week is kicked off by the event “Walk for Life.” More than 2,000 participants from the 17 local government units of Metro Manila, government agencies and NGOs will join the Walk for Life on October 1. The participants will traverse in vicinity of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City starting at 6:30 am where program will be held at the SM Mall of Music Hall.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development and the National Steering Committee leads with other government agencies, NGOs and senior citizens associations in the celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week on October 1-7.
This year’s theme: Nakatatanda: Dangal ng Bayan,Noon at Ngayon.
The Elderly Filipino Week celebration seeks to advocate for the full implementation of laws benefiting senior citizens,particular ly RA 9257, the Expanded Senior Citizens Act. It also supports of the passage of Social Pension for Older Persons and other pending legislations for older persons. (PIA)
