In a time in which people are struggling to find empowerment the ocean may offer a wonderful starting point. Ocean Story say that it most definitely is and, that whether we have ever stopped to consider it or not, the truth is that each and every one of is born a wave maker with the power to make a big difference. The question to ask is “What Kind of Waves Are We Making?”
World Oceans Day is June 8th and through the long and hard campaigning of ocean conservationists, more recently helped with some wonderful celebrity activism, the message is starting to work through to more and more people that we need to make our oceans a priority.
The statistics make for grim reading and despite the increasing demonstration by the public that we care about our environment and want action we still find governments and corporations slow to change policy.
The good news is that people can move quickly and vote with their feet and money. Through increasing awareness, education and the realisation of just how powerful each individual is Ocean Story aims to inspire more and more of us to make the choice to stand up and declare ourselves Beautiful Wave Makers.
What’s Happening? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOekJW6p4kc)
Ocean Story is preparing for the Beautiful Wave Maker Campaign Voyage, a global voyage of ocean conservation awareness and education using the arts, music and storytelling as the medium for communication and message sharing.
As part of the campaign the Ocean Story Boat is going to be transformed into a sea-going people’s art project. It will have a new design on the hull and sails, created to convey the question and message of the campaign. The new design will be made as a mosaic built with images, stories, songs and messages of ocean lovers, leaders, celebrities and ocean organisations from around the globe. Contributions are being sent from a growing and eclectic group of well known artists, musicians, environmentalists, indigenous leaders, mariners and spiritual leaders such as: Yoko Ono, Paulo Coelho, Deva Premal & Miten, Bunna Lawrie, Kerrianne Cox, Thich Nhat Hanh and many more.
All nations are warmly invited to take part, all cultures and all ages welcome. This is going to be a remarkable project, representing as many passionate people as possible. This is your invitation to inspire the world and also to have your voice heard in support of the oceans. It is free to take part; to submit your image, story, photo, poem or song http://oceanstory.org/your-waves/
