THE Aquino administration continues to assist undocumented workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) who camped outside the Philippine consulate in Jeddah, a Palace official said on Sunday.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview over government –run radio station dzRB Radyo ng Bayan that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) started taking steps to help undocumented OFWs who need assistance.
“Katulad ng sinabi ng DFA, kailangan po kasi nating tingnan isa-isa ang kanila pong mga kaso dahil alam naman po natin na pagdating doon sa KSA, meron pong requirement na exit visa at kailangan po na klaro lahat ang kanilang mga paperwork bago sila mabigyan nito,” Valte said.
Valte said the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is also attending to the needs of the undocumented OFWs who are affected by the KSA’s crackdown on illegal and overstaying migrants.
According to reports, King Abdullah of the KSA has ordered the kingdom’s Ministries of Interior and Labor to give undocumented workers in the KSA three months to correct their work and residency status.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) is coordinating with the proper Saudi authorities to assist qualified OFWs who want to legalize their stay by acquiring Iqama and residency permits. The POLO is also assisting the OFWs who are seeking repatriation.
“Yung DFA po natin, ‘yung ating POLO, ‘yung DOLE natin—‘yung mga labor attaché po natin doon—ay gumagalaw na para matulungan ang ating mga kababayan doon,” Valte said.
Some 1,450 undocumented Filipinos, who are seeking immediate repatriation, reportedly camped out near the Philippine Consulate building in Jeddah for fear of being arrested by the Saudi police. (PND)

Sa gipagawas nga abiso sa Philippine Embassy sa Riyadh, legal man o dili, kinahanglang ma-kompleto ang tulo ka requirement usa pa makapaule sa Pilipinas.
Una sa requirement ang pagbaton og balidong Philippine passport o travel document kun walay pasaporte.

THE government of Saudi Arabia has extended for the second time the deadline for the payment of blood money in the case of Joselito Zapanta in response to President Aquino’s request, Malacanang said on Thursday.
In a press statement, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the Department of Foreign Affairs informed the Palace that the Saudi government has extended the deadline from March 12, 2013 to November 3, 2013, which coincides with the end of the current Islamic year.
“This extension allows the Zapanta family more time to raise the funds required by the victim’s heirs,” Lacierda said as he thanked King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi government for interceding on Zapanta’s behalf.
Lacierda assured that the Department of Foreign Affairs will continue providing Zapanta and his family with all the necessary assistance.
To date, the Philippine government and the Zapanta family have been able to raise 512,066.35 Saudi Arabian Riyals (SAR) or P5.6 million, out of the SAR 4 million demanded by the victim’s heirs, which is equivalent to P44 million, Lacierda said.
At the same time, the Palace official also appealed to all kind-hearted individuals for assistance in raising the remaining amount needed by Zapanta to pay for the blood money.
Zapanta went to Saudi Arabia in 2007 to work as a tile-setter. In 2009 he admitted killing his Sudanese landlord and after a court trial he was sentenced to death. (PCOO)

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 18 (PIA)–Gitambagan sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ang mga negosyante ug overseas Filipino worker (OFW) nga makig-transaksyon lamang sa mga accredited freight forwarder sa Philippine Shippers’ Bureau sa pagpadala sa ilang mga packages.
Taliwala kini sa kapin 153 nga natalang reklamo sa DTI batok sa mga freight forwarder nga pakyas sa pagpadala sa mga balikbayan boxes sa ilang mga kliyente.
Matud pa ni DTI Undersecretary for Consumer Welfare and Business Regulation Zenaida Maglaya, kasaligan ug mosunod gayud sa standard sa gobyerno ang mga freight forwarder nga accredited nila.
Gitambagan usab ni Maglaya ang publiko nga susihon sa website sa DTI nga www.dti.gov.ph ang listahan sa mga accredited freight forwarding companies aron makasalig ug makasiguro og maayong serbisyo.
