Kapihan tackles hot Boholano products

“PROUDLY Pinoy and truly Boholano.”

That’s how one would describe Jojie’s baked products and has earned the discriminating taste of local and foreign tourists.

For owners Arnold and Ma. Carmen “Jojie” Labunog, the next big dough to knead may be for bigger outside markets. The Boholano delicacy investor is slowly inching its way to perfecting the packaging of their products as initial steps in claiming a niche in international stalls.

At the weekly Kapihan sa PIA, the Labunogs admit as with every Pinoy product, it must show consistency and follow standards to be competitive. Lending words for those eyeing the same line of business, they said their baked delicacies always carry the patience, hardwork and faith; their biggest capital since their humble beginnings.

Now opening the innovative Painitang Bol-anon at the traditional merienda venue at the Agora, Jojies owners said they have started to get foreign tourists sitting on their place and enjoring lazy afternoon snacks of local delicacies.

It has to be a passion, says Jojie, matriarch of the chain of Jojies Bakeshops all over Bohol while doled out free advice to would be baked food entrepreneurs.

With Jojies at the thresholds of international markets, the ingredient to make their food debut may just be in their tagline: real goodness in every bite. (rachiu/PIA)

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Bohol Chapter have rallied behind a move to allow to barangay treasurers to collect real property taxes in a recent bid to increase tax revenues collection.

Led by Ubay Mayor Eutiquio Bernales, the movement surfaced after the league members listened to presentation on the electronic tax revenue assessment and collection system (ETRACS), touted as top of the line computerized system designed to streamline tax assessment and make collection efficient and practical.

LMP Bohol President, Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas stressed “the move may be applicable to some towns, but not all however and should be considered on a case-to-case basis”, while pointing out the impracticality of putting trainings for treasurers and assistant treasurers.

On the other hand, several LMP members believe that Bernales’ proposal complements the implementation of the ETRACS, which would be piloted in Bohol in Maribojoc town. (rachiu/PIA)

Capitol allots P3 M for tertiary roads upkeep

Capitol has formally told the League of Municipalities the release of P3M for repair and maintenance of the 55 kilometers of Bohol’s tertiary provincial roads.

In the recent LMP meeting, Engr. Einstein Gonzales told the mayors that the fund from Capitol’s 20% development fund would be available soon.

Bohol has by far, 918 kilometers of provincial roads classified as primary to tertiary. Gonzales adds that the fund for the 55 kilometers would be a separate maintenance fund from the usual maintenance activities implemented by the Office of the Provincial Engineer on the primary and secondary access roads.

The fund would also be used for pakyaw contracts with residents in the barangays who have aired elation over the prospect of additional income and better roads, the engineer claimed.

The move is also seen as Capitol’s way of generating more jobs in the countryside. Jobs available for the contract work would be patching, ditching and clearing, one that can easily be filled by unemployed workers in the barangays. (rachiu/PIA)
