DPWH funds P3M processional road

Catigbian Mayor Roberto Salinas succeeds in getting P3M worth funds for the town’s inner and outer religious processional roads. The projeect will be funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office.

The project may not really pass government audit, observers once told Mayor Salinas. “But the road is also owned by the government and the people who deserve to get their share of the taxes,” Salinas explained.

For the national government funds, almost a kilometer of standard government public roads are paved in concrete, filled with standard shouldering materials and asserts the governor’s executive order reflecting the provisions of the national law on municipal roads.

NFA ups rice buy plan to 1 million MT in ’09

The National Food Authority (NFA) is planning to buy 1 million metric tons (MT) of palay from local producers this year. This is 45% higher than last years’ procurement and sums up to P11.645 billion, according to NFA Administrator Jessup Navarro.
 
Navarro said last year’s procurement volume was in fact 2,000% higher than the previous year’s volume buy of 33,000 MT.
 
AT a recent Department of Agriculture Management Committee meeting, Navarro told DA Secretary Arthur Yap that NFA’s buying policy now prioritizes farmers shifting from inbred to certified seeds and to those switching from certified seeds to hybrid seeds. (rachiu/PIA)

Set free our teachers – Sec. Lapus

Department of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus sent an urgent call to set free the 6 kidnapped teachers in Zamboanga without any condition.

The kidnapped teachers are Quizon Frieres (29 yrs. old), Janette Delos Reyes (27 yrs. old), Rafael Mayonado (24 yrs. old), Jocelyn Inion (39 yrs. old), Noemi Mandi (38 yrs. old) and Jocelyn Enriquez (43 yrs. old).

Lapus said that all of kidnapped victims come from poor families and that the hapless teachers depend solely on their salary to provide for their family’s needs.

The government maintains a no-ransom policy in dealing with the kidnappers. (DepEd)

HNU’s Fr. Bancale Dies In Easter Celebration

Rev Fr. Romeo Bancale died on Easter Sunday past 4:00 in the afternoon. Fr. Bancale, together with other SVD priests, was attending the Easter celebration held at the SVD Beach Resort in Libaong, Panglao.

Fr. Bancale was swimming when he called for help to a fellow SVD priest, Fr. Boboy Sarabia.

Though given first aid remedies once on shore, he was Dead-On-Arrival at the Ramiro Hospital. Fr. Bancale died due to cardiac arrest secondary to swimming, as said by resident doctors.

Fr. Bancale recently served as the vice president for academic affairs and director, Center for Research & Local Governance of Holy Name University, Tagbilaran.

His wake is currently held at the HNU gymnasium, Jansen Heights Campus but only until Friday tomorrow. On Saturday, his remains will be flown to Manila. And interment is set at the Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City on April 20, 2009 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
