Malakanyang: Pagpagawas sa ‘Performance-Based Bonus’, moagi sa proseso

The Philippines, through the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will host the 6th Association of South East Asian Nations Schools Games (ASG) on December 2014, even as the country is set to host the ASG golf tournament in November this year.
The Philippine participated in the recently concluded 5th ASEAN Schools Games in Hanoi, Vietnam where it sent selected 2013 Palarong Pambansa medalists. The contingent won three bronze medals in boys’ volleyball, girls’ basketball and boys’ javelin throw. Bryan Jay Pacheco bested the Palarong Pambansa record and his personal best in javelin throw. Pacheco also broke the Palarong Pambansa record in shot put.
“I am proud of our athletes and commend their discipline and dedication to their sport. Moreover, I am glad that they are able to participate in such as this and serve as ambassadors of goodwill to our neighbors,” said Education Secretary Bro. Armin A. Luistro FSC, adding expressed his appreciation to PSC for actively supporting DepEd in developing the Filipino athletes.
“We are looking forward to hosting the 6th ASG next year.”
The ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) is an annual sporting event which aims to enhance friendship among students around the region. It also seeks to promote ASEAN solidarity among the youth through school sports and provide opportunities for school athletes to engage in cultural exchange.
The 5th ASG was participated in by the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The events were track and field, sepaktakraw, swimming, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, table tennis, volleyball, and pencaksilat. (DepEd)

MALACAÑANG welcomed China’s latest statement on its willingness to hold discussions for the possible crafting of a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea amid continuing tensions in the area.
In a press briefing in Malacanang on Thursday, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said he cannot speculate on China’s intention to spearhead low-level discussions to resolve the dispute but he said it is a welcome development.
“It’s a forward step with China agreeing to at least discuss the Code of Conduct with us. We already drafted the Code of Conduct, and now we have asked them to discuss it with us, and China has already said that they are discussing with us. And so this is a step in the right direction,” Lacierda said.
After years of rejecting efforts to start talks for a Code of Conduct with the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), China has agreed to host talks between senior officials this coming September.
But the code would not touch on the territorial claims but would set rules for actions by ships, aimed at minimizing the risk of missteps that could lead to hostilities.
The discussions, to be held in China, was described as “consultations” rather than “negotiations”.
Asean and China ministers met in Brunei this week for a security forum that tackled the tension in the West Philippine Sea.
The US, an ally of the Philippines and Vietnam said it is not taking sides on the issue but said that its strategic interest is the freedom of navigation in the West Philippine Sea.
The US hopes that the Asean and China agree on a valid Code of Conduct soon. (PND)
