Malacanang vowed Friday to fully investigate the alleged P10-billion scam over the past decade involving pork barrel funds of senators and congressmen spent for ghost projects.
“What we would like to emphasize is all the aspects of this travesty are being investigated fully regardless of where it leads up. This applies to both the investigation on Janet Napoles and also in the investigation on Cadavero,” Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said in a press briefing in Malacanang on Friday.
Janet Lim-Napoles is being implicated in a P10-billion scam using mainly pork barrel funds of lawmakers for bogus projects. Napoles denied the allegations saying her company, JLN Corporation, had never transacted business with the government or any of its agencies. Napoles is the president and CEO of JLN Corporation.
In 2001, Napoles and her husband, retired Army Maj. Jaime Napoles, were among 18 personnel of the Navy Marine Corps and civilians, charged by the Office of Ombudsman in connection with the acquisition of substandard Kevlar helmets worth P3.8 million.
Napoles was also summoned by the Senate blue ribbon committee during its investigation on the P728-million fertilizer scam involving then Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante.
Napoles’s woes stemmed from the allegations of Benhur K. Luy, 31, a distant cousin and her personal assistant in JLN Corp., that she had ordered his kidnapping and illegal detention.
Luy, who was rescued by a special task force of NBI agents last March, outlined the alleged involvement of Napoles in the scam. He said Napoles purportedly used funds from the lawmakers’ priority development assistance funds (PDAF), or pork barrel, and various government entities, for ghost projects executed by several dozen bogus contractors in the past 10 years.
The Palace said it is letting the Department of Justice, through the National Bureau of Investigation to fully investigate the case. (PND)

Administrator of National Food Authority (NFA) Orlan Calayag today said the public should not panic or even worry over the supply and rising price of rice in the markets throughout the country.
“We have an adequate supply of rice that is more than sufficient enough to last the lean months this year,” said Calayag in a statement after having reported that the country’s total stock inventory for the staple is at 2.4 metric tons, which has an equivalent of 483,840 sacks.
“This registered available rice supply is good to last for 71 days based on the country’s daily domestic requirement of 34,000 metric tons or an equivalent of 680,000 sacks,” he added.
Meanwhile, in order to ensure that there will be no speculations to drive the price of rice in the markets, Calayag ordered NFA field offices to strictly monitor rice movements and prices in markets nationwide. (DA)

THE government will abide with the status quo ante (Latin for “the way things were before”)
order the Supreme Court imposed on the implementation of the Reproductive Health Law,
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said on Tuesday.
In a press briefing in Malacanang, Valte called the recent ruling of the high court as
“unfortunate” and noted that there will be no implementation of the provisions laid out by the
RH Law while the status quo ante order is in effect.
“The extension is unfortunate however the extension will be respected by government,” Valte said.
“The net effect (of the ruling) is that there will be no implementation while the status quo ante
order is in effect. It essentially extends the non-implementation of the RH Law,” she added.
Voting 8-7, the Supreme Court ordered on Tuesday an status quo ante order on the RH Law
extended until further orders effective immediately.
The status quo ante order directs the parties to observe the status or situation before the
implementation of the RH law.
The extension came a day before the original 120-day status quo ante order issued on
March 19, was to expire Wednesday. In the original status quo ante order, the justices
