More Pag-IBIG branches lead to increased net satisfaction with services in Visayas, Excellent at +75

TAGBILARAN CITY, December 13 (PIA)–The Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or popularly known as Pag-IBIG Fund got a net satisfaction of +75 or Excellent in the Visayas for its services, based on a national survey conducted by Social Weather Stations from September 24 to 27, 2016. This is a 34-point increase from +41 in a similar survey done in December 2015. “One of the biggest reasons for the increased net satisfaction in the area is the opening of more branches in Regions 6 to 8, or Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas, respectively. From five branches in 2010, we now have 19 branches and three service offices all over the Visayas,” said Ms. Victoria dela Pena, Vice President for Member Services Operations in the Visayas and Mindanao. She also attributed members’ awareness to the increased visibility of various Pag-IBIG teams who are aggressive in marketing the Fund’s Loyalty Card program. Among the respondents, 84% answered that they are aware of Pag-IBIG Fund and its programs. This is a 5-point increase from the previous 79% awareness score. “Constant exposure of our membership and housing programs on TV and social media also contributed to the high net satisfaction,” Ms. Dela Pena added. Availment of services also increased, up by 8% to 24% in September 2016 from 16% in December 2015. The biggest jump in services was noted for membership and employer registration, showing a 29% increase from 36% in December 2015 to 65% in September 2016. This was followed by verification of membership or loan records at 24%, up by 9% from 13% in December 2015. Starting last year, Pag-IBIG initiated to... read more

Lopez: with Martial Law in effect, prices in Iligan City should remain stable

ILIGAN CITY—In response to a report that prices of goods, specifically rice, have suddenly doubled, reaching almost PhP 5,000.00 per 50 kilograms, National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC) Chair and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez, DTI Undersecretary for Consumer Protection Ted Pascua and DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau officials immediately conducted ground inspection and price monitoring in Iligan City on Monday (5 June).   Sec. Lopez reported that based on the monitoring, prices of goods in Iligan City remain stable. He reiterated that with Mindanao still under Martial Law, any upsurge in prices in the region is considered illegal and therefore violators and profiteers will face appropriate sanctions.   According to the initial report, PhP 100.00 per kilo of rice, whose price monitoring is under the Department of Agriculture (DA), is being sold in Marawi City and adjacent areas, amidst the ongoing encounter between state forces and Maute-ISIS group.   Sec. Lopez reiterated the importance of consistent price monitoring for both basic and prime goods under DTI and for rice under DA, as well as the sustained flow of supply to prevent price increases in Iligan City.   Iligan City instantly cradles refugees from Marawi City. There are reportedly 130,000 Marawi refugees, who currently stay in Iligan City.   Sec. Lopez also called on state forces based in Marawi City to urgently report anyone, who intend to take advantage of the situation and sought help for the safe delivery of rice supply.   Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia, meanwhile, called on sectors for help, especially for those directly affected by the crisis situation.   DTI coordinates with...

Without yet deputization papers: Cops score 8 drug arrests

BOHOL police still score 8 against illegal drugs form February to April, despite the absence of deputization orders to the provincial anti-drug task force members from the regional drug enforcement agency. With a scenario made difficult by technical requirement of police deputization as drug agents to consummate anti-drug arrests, Bohol police force are now hopeful of a full blast operations as soon as their element members of the Provincial Anti Drug Abuse Task Force get their marching orders from the regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Anent to that, on the 8 apprehensions here, PSInsp. Vener Santos of Camp Dagohoy rated police accomplishment, 4 in a scale of 10, knowing they could only do with clipped wings. He admitted cops have been fairly cautious about drug raids as the operation needs joint operations between the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency as a technical requirement. He was however positive that the rating would surge as soon as the Bohol Police Office through PSSupt Egdardo Ingking seals the deputization papers with the regional drug agency, which may not be long. Moreover he said at the weekly Kapihan sa PIA aired live over DyTR that police deputization as drug agents also go with a special training from PDEA. The trainings, he explained would be on the technicalities of drug arrests and raids, which has become the main reason why drug cases could not proceed to second base. Police officers need to meticulously go through the a tough checklist when proceeding to a drug arrest, raid or buy-bust operation, he explained. Failure to approximate the technical requirements is...

PCSO charity fund remains untapped

A huge amount poor patients can use, from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) remain untapped. The charity amount is one coursed through PCSO fund allocations in the form of endowments to hospitals with at least 25-bed capacity, says department assistant manager Rubin Magno. Magno, who sits at the PCSO Fund Allocation Department revealed that not many of Bohol hospitals availed of the sum which could be useful in times of financial grip. These endowment funds can be used for treatment, out-sourced diagnostic examinations if the beneficiary medical institution does not have the necessary equipment that the patient needs or procuring medicines when the hospital pharmacy runs out of the specific medicine an indigent patient needs, Magno explained. The fund should help indigent hospital patients who would otherwise shy from their health care benefits due to fiscal concerns, he added. Seeing this gap, PCSO wants to get to these people and thus put in the funds, he said during the recent 10th leg of the PCSO Summer Charity Caravan held in Tagbilaran last week. In Bohol, only three hospitals here yet accessed the PCSO endowments, relatively few, noting the number of poor residents who would get a stab at free hospital benefits, care of the PCSO, records show. Of the three, PCSO named Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) in Tagbilaran City, Congressman Teodoro B. Galagar District Hospital (TBGDH) in Jagna and Maribojoc Community Hospital (MCH). He added that PCSO has put in P1M for GCGMH, P.5M for TBGDH and P.4M for MCH, amounts which can be replenished as soon as the hospital submits its liquidation reports, Magno explained....

Would Tongonan Plant sale affect Bohol power supply?

WOULD selling the 112.5 MW Tongonan Geothermal Plant in Kananga Leyte affect the generation side, which Bohol desperately needs to power its dream Panglao Airport? As far as the National Grid Corporation (NGC) is concerned, Boholanos need not be wary of the privatization bid for the plant that supplies 80-100 MW for Bohol now. Just this week, the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) formally opened the packaged sale of Tongonan Geo-Power Plant and Palinpinon Geothermal Plants. This PSALM did when it opened the notice of bids of both generating assets on an as is-where-is basis in their websites and in major papers early this week. Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant is presently the biggest bulk power supplier for Bohol, which NGC estimates at about 80 MW, well above the peak demand of 54MW says Bohol Area Control Center Superintendent Noel Rara. Located in Sitio Sambaloran, Barangay Lim-ao, Kananga, Leyte, Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant consists of three 37.5-MW units, which were commissioned in 1983 and has supplied Bohol since the Leyte Bohol Power Interconnection Project Phase 1 was completed. On this, “‘the privatization side would hopefully not affect power generation aspect of the asset,” he said during a telephone interview Wednesday, May 13, 2009. In fact, the move is seen as a way to maximize the power generation output the two geothermal plants are putting out, he added. The move however would put many investors eyeing the Panglao Tourism Zone in their maps as the critical power demand for the airport and its complex alone would necessarily tip the scales for Bohol power need. Many also see the...

Chatto law names Bohol, 7 sites as tourism zones

MAKE STRATEGIC areas across the country, especially Bohol and 7 other provinces, into tourism enterprise zones, this is one of the effects of the new law President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed last week in the heart of the country’s tourism super-region. The move, which Bohol Representative Edgar Chatto and his counterpart at the Senate authored should make the Philippine tourism globally competitive and puts its as primary engine for investment, employment and national development. Other than Bohol, other tourism zones to be established are in Cebu, Davao, Laguna, Cavite, Boracay, Palawan and Iloilo: all of these to foreign investors and tourists to visit places rich in history and culture, the law said. Thus, it will spur the creation of jobs and open additional channels for the infusion of much-needed investments as well as give the people the power to pull themselves out of the economic recession, explains Rep. Chatto in media interviews prior to the signing, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed May 12, the National Tourism Act of 2009 (Republic Act 9593) declaring a national tourism policy and attempts to integrate all tourism development efforts to boost the country’s competitiveness, he stressed. This it does by strengthening the Department of Tourism (DOT) and its attached agencies to effectively and efficiently implement that policy and appropriate funds, he explains. In fact, tourism Secretary Ace Durano admitted that the law lends DOT a “bigger jet engine so we can climb up. It provides us more capability and resources to make our tourism industry very globally competitive.” The Cebuano tourism chair was referring to the provisions for setting up of a system...
